OMG...craziness with my breaker box...calling all handymen/women

So,

The dryer was on. All of a sudden, I hear a LOUD bang and think, okay, breaker flipped. No biggie. So then I'm at the breaker box, and I try to move the "slider" over to the right spot. It wouldn't stay there. I walk away...

a few minutes later, I tried to slide the slider back and BANG. A LOUDER bang than the first tone. THEN, I smell smoke...WTF. We opened all the windows asap and I was trying to find fire extinguisher. Luckily, the smoke died down and all seems to be okay now. the slider is back in the right position, but I'm scared to try the dryer. Is it safe? What the hell happened?

thanks

probably your dryer. check the electrical plug, and wherever the cable goes into the dryer.

you turned the breaker on while the dryer was on? Before you flip any breakers, turn everything connected to them OFF so that power surges don't cause problems.
