I have been growing my hair out for like... 4 months. It's not even past my eyebrows yet. How long does this freaking take? I figured it would be a good experiement to try since I always have short hair, and if I don't like it long I can always chop it back down.

@#%@#%@# How do chicks deal with this crap?

It takes a year to get any kind of length going. You have to be patient. You'll eventually get to a point where it's not long, but it's not short either, like it's still short enough to stick outwards instead of down, and short enough to have the tips get in your eyes and mouth when you're eating. This is an awkward stage and you have to wait a month or two more to actually get your hair past your mouth. Once you're past that, your hair should start flowing and you're home free.

Maybe someone creeps in at night while you're sleeping and cuts a little hair each week, just to prevent your experiment from succeeding.

Kinda like the underpants gnomes?

I've read that hair grows on average 1/2 inch per month, so it takes a long time to get serious length. I grew mine out 15 years ago from above my ears and it was over a year before I could pull the front into a ponytail.

That's about right. Took me about 14 months before I could pull my hair back into a ponytail. My hair started waaay above my ears!
