The televisions are set up outside, the barbeque is smoking (pulled pork later), and the weather just happened to turn awesome in the south for the opening weekend of college football.

Not a lot of big time matchups today but to be honest I really don't care. Football is here. College football this weekend, NFL next weekend, hell yes.

Anyone else have big plans for the day?

Love the fact that it apparently went from 85 degrees to 65 degrees overnight here. The weather knows what's up.

My teams have some big games this weekend, probably the best two games imo. Boiler up and go Hokies!

If only they were playing that game today. I understand the desire to make it separate, but it would just make this day culminate into an even greater level of awesomeness if they kicked off tonight at 8PM EST.

Meh, I rather like the idea of having it on a holiday monday the week before MNF starts. Should be awesome.

We now have a nice melting pot of southern football team representation at our 'tailgate'. Tennessee, Alabama, and Vanderbilt fans collectively celebrating this national holiday. And that's how it should be. My team already lost on Thursday so I have nothing to gain other than feasting and inebriation. :p

No Auburn fans? :p

I had a feeling when I came in this thread that'd you be somewhere in the SEC region... these people sure do love their football!

Ha nope. We are in Georgia for the weekend though so the fact that there are no UGA fans here is even more strange.

Watching 2 games right now that I thought for sure would be blowouts.

Florida v Miama OH and Penn State v Youngstown State.

Both Florida and Penn State have looked uninspired so far.

Florida is not just uninspiring, they are getting WORKED... yea, they are winning, but Miami (OH) is dominating this game, both offensively, and defensively... if Miami hadn't have thrown the picks, they would be winning... plus the fake punt that failed...

You mean people who aren't attending college still watch college sports?

Or, are you watching "your college" play...even though you've graduated?

I never grasped the appeal of college sports. Professional...yes, not college.

Sorry you don't grasp the appeal. Thanks for posting.

because in college, you have the possibility of almost any team being able to compete with any other team on any given day...

see Miami(OH) vs #4 Florida

If Miami (OH) was actually a good football team... lol (they went 1-11 last year). So undisciplined. And aren't their first and second string running backs out of the game?

I guess this is why you schedule easy teams first. I never did understand why VT scheduled like ... Alabama, LSU, USC, Boise St., etc. their first or second games of the season. I guess it doesn't drop you too far down the polls and serves as a nice wake-up call though.

Yep, Sept 25th at Cajun Field. Whats the deal with the QB situation?

Not having Dasher probably led to us losing the other night. You never can tell but that's just sort of how I felt watching our offense be so on/off throughout the game that led to a 45m/15m time of possession in favor of Minnesota.

The latest news is that basically there is no news. We think he's out for at least 3-4 games (which I think includes the ULL game!) but I think that is all going to depend on what the NCAA decides to do. I think we can still compete with Sun Belt teams with the backup QB but I'm definitely not as confident as I was before all that madness went down.

Thus far... Florida looks awful. The other favorites not so much. I think it probably just comes down to the big time college football schools looking past the little guy vs. the little guy thinking of these games as their national championship though so it's hard to pass judgment on teams like Florida. But like I said earlier, they just look awful.

So what is everyone looking forward to in the afternoon games? Not a lot to really focus in on but on one TV I'm sure we will have Kentucky/Louisville and on the other will probably be Notre Dame/Purdue. I think Michigan is on the ticket as well so assuming it is available on ESPN3 we may have that one pulled up on the laptop.

We looked pathetic today, I knew Georgia was gonna smoke us but by almost 50+ points? jeez :(

Only game of relevance is VT/Boise St. The rest are just for the $$$$$ playing no name teams.

UNC/LSU (prior to suspensions) had some good going for it.

OSU/TCU may be a good game tonight.

Other than that... you're pretty much right. I'm hoping for a mega upset but it's rare and I doubt we will see one this weekend.
