Omg Bettas (fighting fish) on Animal Planet!!!

bettas are number 2 in the countdown because if you put two males in the same tank, they use razor sharp teeth and start to PWN each other. Sometimes loser fish BLEED TO DEATH. omfg so pwned

"This is not a territorial thing. It's a matter of alpha dominance." Proved this by putting two on opposite sides of a LAKE and they headed for each other and fkn got it on!!!! And when I say got it on I don't mean inseminated fish eggs!!! (btw i mean KICK ASS)

In Thailand, fishfighting was once a popular sport. People placed bets on which warrior would survive the battle. Like the ROMANS!!!

Both fighting men and fighting FISH can win the hearts of the girls!

dude i totally want one

edit: omg ants are number 1 on the countdown because when ants go to war, nothing stands in the way. i don't care, fish are still the super hax

You just found out eh. Go to your nearest walmart and buy a couple. Its fun to watch.

I'd avoid the walmart ones unless all you want to do is let them kill each other. Otherwise they look like death run over. I have a Betta that has outlived my expectations. Going on a year now. They are much heartier than goldfish, the thing can even survive full water changes.

lol, my third grade teacher bought four or five betta fish for the classroom aquarium. All the kids would watch them fight to the death, but none survived. There was one that was stronger and smarter than all the others, but when he was the last survivor he died from blood loss anyways. It was so AWESOME!

I keep a betta in my community tank. Aswesome looking fish.

Buying them to fight them is a horrible idea, btw.

ayep.

arghhh, can't find it. thought for sure I posted in that one.
heh, I still have the video around here somewhere..

Bettas are very cool fish. We always have at least on in the house (but never in the same tank, fighting them is just cruel). We once had one live for almost 3 years, a very long time for a betta. The current betta in the house is beautiful irisdescent blue one we picked up from PetsMart a few months ago. A fun and harmless thing to do with bettas is to put a mirror in front of their tank. They think it's another male fish and go into full display. Very cool. Keeps them active too, which is good. Most people just ignore their bettas, which is a shame because they have very fiesty personalities.

I killed one a few years ago... posted a video and everything. It was very sick, and I used the Ice Water stun euthenasia method. I got plenty of flack from the PETA members...

True. Most fish stores have little basket-like mini-tanks that you can put inside larger tanks to keep the bettas separate, both from each other and from other fish.

You shouldn't put a betta in community tanks with other territorial fish, like cichlids, etc. The poor betta will likely get its fins chewed off.

Those mini-tanks are so small. I prefer to take 2.5-gal tanks or larger and buy/build dividers for them. It's easy to do.

They definitely suck in community tanks. Nippers will nip them, they will foolishly attack any fish that could potentially be another male, and community tanks usually have moving water where still water is really better for them.
