Let me preface this by saying I have *not* tried all the pizza places in NYC. I have tried some of them, and some are excellent. I am sure there are excellent places in NYC and Chicago and other cities that have world-class pizza.
That said, I am from Los Angeles, and we don't have many good pizza places. But I do know good pizza, because I have lived for 5 months in Italy at various times in my life.
Long story short, I found the ULTIMATE pizza in the US (at least, that I have had) last week in Marina Del Rey, CA. Basically for those who do not know, that is a western part of Greater Los Angeles.
The name of the place. Antica Pizza.
This is WORLD CLASS pizza people. If you are anywhere in or around LA, you wouldn't go wrong to check it out.
Small cavet: some people in the United States like gross pizza that has nothing to do with the type of pizza 99% of Italians (in Italy) like. This is NOT American pizza. It is Southern Italian style, specifically Napoletana. That means it has a thin crust and not a lot of cheese or sauce. For lack of a better world it is a delicate pizza.
