Let me preface this by saying I have *not* tried all the pizza places in NYC. I have tried some of them, and some are excellent. I am sure there are excellent places in NYC and Chicago and other cities that have world-class pizza.

That said, I am from Los Angeles, and we don't have many good pizza places. But I do know good pizza, because I have lived for 5 months in Italy at various times in my life.

Long story short, I found the ULTIMATE pizza in the US (at least, that I have had) last week in Marina Del Rey, CA. Basically for those who do not know, that is a western part of Greater Los Angeles.

The name of the place. Antica Pizza.

This is WORLD CLASS pizza people. If you are anywhere in or around LA, you wouldn't go wrong to check it out.

Small cavet: some people in the United States like gross pizza that has nothing to do with the type of pizza 99% of Italians (in Italy) like. This is NOT American pizza. It is Southern Italian style, specifically Napoletana. That means it has a thin crust and not a lot of cheese or sauce. For lack of a better world it is a delicate pizza.

I remember going to NYC to Bravo's Pizza and buying two large pies to bring back home. I only ate pizza for 2 weeks. NY > *

NEVER tell a New Haven, Connecticut resident that New York pizza is better. It really pisses 'em off.

Mill, if you ever come to LA, PM me first. I'll take you to this place. It's good. Like I said, I haven't tried every NYC place, but this is GOOD.

Wow. I'm actually moving near Marina Del Rey this week... I'll have to check it out.

There was a small Italian restaurant in the Chicago suburbs that made an awesome seafood pizza. There was just a drizzle of cheese and very light sauce but it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had in my life.

Whoo, that's about 10 miles from me..so given LA traffic I'll just wait until I have about 2 hours to drive to check it out.

I was just busting your balls, but it does look rather good on their website. Hey, if I'm out there again I might just take you up on it.

I think Chicago deep dish is the best pizza in the world..

From what I've heard, real Italy pizza is nothing much more than some sauce on a piece of bread.

Tackinelli's in downtown Philly. Delicious brick over pizza, they use an entire HOUSE that was built next to it as an oven. None of you have ever had better brick oven pizza then this, I don't care if you live in NYC or Rome.

I'd have to say Chicago thin crust pizza is my favorite. Namely Home Run Inn, and yes it's much better than the frozen ones.
