Mine went down from $3400 to $2200/year the second marriage kicked in. Another friend also went down about 35% when it happened to him. When you're young this is a real money saver :)

Here is another tip: buy your life insurance while you are still young and healthy, it will save you a lot of money!

Also, I heard that married men tend to live longer than single men. Women are good for men! ;)

iamawiz: thats what the lady said. She said it shows I'm more responsible. Then she had a good laugh :) But I guess thats what the stats show. I know I'm better than I was 5 years ago - thats for damn sure.

stormrider: Thats because when you're single nobody harps on you for drinking a 6 pack every night :)

Second that! If you're in one of those plans which actually acts like an investment fund as well, you're indirectly saving money as well!

NO NO NO! Don't fall for these so-called investment insurance things!
For life insurance you want term insurance. You pay a set fee for a set amount of coverage. No bullstuff.

I don't understand life insurance. You only collect when you're dead. What good is it if you don't have a wife or children?

I'm no life insurance expert, but I understand that there's term life and whole life. With term life, the payments are relatively cheap, but you only get something out of it if you die. Or I think that's how it works. With whole life, you pay a lot more, but it is like an investment. You could pull money from it later.

I think Mikal is right - all I've heard is that term is the one to get - the "investment ones" (is it called cash or something?) kinda suck because you don't get nearly as much money out of it as you really should...so go with term I think :)

Some guy recently showed me the math about it all and term really seemed the way to go.

You don't have to be married to cut down your insurance. Two people can live together, un married and still get the discount. At least with progressive auto I did this. The other person is called an "Other".

Yeah once you get married your insurance does drop a lot.. Mine dropped a lot recently, got married, bought a house, and turned 25 (Now 26).. I pay Around ~500/year for full coverage on a 99 Corolla.

Yeah I tried that last year; it depends on the insurance provider though. I go through an agent and she couldn't find one that cared if we were common law or not unfortunately...

progressive doesn't care at all. you can be gf/bf as long as you "claim" you live together. You can be man/man if that floats your boat, or roomates/les-be friends (woman/woman).

Seriously. It will give you:
Multi-person discount (10-15%)
Multi-Car discount (10-15%)

Have the person with the best credit rating and lowest "risk" be the primary account
holder..

I saved like $150/month by putting my gf on my plan.

Went from $2200/year for me, to $2800/year for both of us (and both cars).

werd.

Getting almost-free nookie is worth it! Sure, sometimes you gotta go get a burger afterwards when you'd rather doze....but all in all, it's worth it!
