OMG - A thread NOT about iraq

the republic of texas is about to execute the 300th inmate
since 1982, and the pace of executions has accelerated over the
years.

i just can't decide whether:

1. this totally discredits the "executions discourage capital murder" argument.

-or-

2. the people of texas are particularly dense & can't grasp the argument
(assuming, hypothetically, that it's true).

look here.

dang, why do people do this?
Err...you know I was joking, right?

Besides, since this thread is about capital punishment it is destined for a fiery death anyway (even if it remains on-topic).

maybe we can get back to the normal, pre-iraq flame level.

We would if we could...

Why put a man into prison for 50 years, just to feed and shelter him???

If you're going to put a man in prison for the rest of his life, do the tax payers a favor and kill him.

I would have no moral problem with killing everyone in prison who was given a life without parole sentence.

As one born and bred in Texas, I can say with a good bit of certainty that neither of those is the case. Most people realize that Capital Punishment will not discourage capital crimes. They are going to happen no matter what society does to prevent them. It comes down to the question of what to do with those convicted of said crimes. We can leave them in prison for the rest of their lives, or we can execute them.
