This is sad. Some people being evacuated out of Houston on bus died when the bus pulled over to get serviced. While pulled over, the bus began to catch on fire. There were 44 people on the bus but only 21 people were able to get out. :(

Yeah, I was watching the news earlier when they showed them loading the charred bus onto a trailer (with the remains of the people still on there), so they could clear the highway for evacuee traffic. Very sad.

44-21=24.

Bad math.

the ironic thing is that those 24 people who died evacuating will probably be more than the total amount of casualities caused by rita

nah, the ironic thing is that they would've probably stood a better chance of surviving if they stayed in texas

Sticking around didn't work out so well for the elderly that were left to drown in the nursing home in NOL.

You take chances either way, but the odds were against something like that bus accident happening. Freak accident. :/

What? The people on that bus were fleeing from Houston to Dallas and surrounding areas. What are you talking about? Maybe my sarcasm meter is busted...

They were being moved from one nursing home to a sister facility. You can bet the management was not going to take chances by leaving the elderly in the path of the storm.
many of those folks need electricity for pumps, Oxygen concentrators, monitors and other equipment. Nursing homes have backup power, but it is limited in both quantity and duration. The anticipated power outages were reason enough to move those folks.
