Intel issues an earnings warning (which was expected anyway) and AMD plummets 10%. Sure they are in the same sector, but they are not the same company. At least Intel went down a little more. (11%) Furthermore, I don't see Intel's woes as being entirely indicative of the rest of the industry. Granted, there has been a general slow down, but not one proportional to Intel's.

Is there a reason for this correlation that I'm missing somewhere?

Yeah Joe blow investor usually ins't the sharpest tool in the shed.

I have wondered about the same thing as well. Guess it takes a long time for certain attitudes to change.

Dumb people still think that Intel owns the world...so, if Intel is doing bad, AMD must be too, right?

AMD goes down because Intel is a bellweather for the industry. It shouldn't justify AMD going down but investors lump everyone together unfortunately. It works the same way in every sector though.
