I signed up with them just to see my score. You get a free 30 days and afterwards it's $12/month. So I saw my score and wanted to cancel. I finally found the number on the website and called to cancel. When you select the cancel option from the phone menu, you get about 5-6 minutes of dead air. Doesn't tell you that you're on hold or anything, just dead air. I thought I was disconnected, so I hung up and tried again, got the same thing. A rep finally answers and tries to convince me not to cancel. Sheesh. Yeah I know it's free, but they do call themselves freecreditreport. :)

PSA: If you're ever at bestbuy or any other retail store and they offer you a free 1-2 issue subscription to a magazine and tell you that "you can just cancel it at home right away," DON'T DO IT.

rule of thumb...if you have to give a credit card number for something "free", it's never worth it.

Expect a strange charge on your CC for $30 or $60. make sure you read the fine print about signing up for their credit guard thingy. Call back asap to make it clear to them you do NOT want this service.

I really need to see my score. Any ideas on how to prevent getting scammed?

I didn't get scammed, they just made it difficult to cancel.

Just go apply for a huge bank loan. When they turn you down, they're required to release your credit info to you.

I think that would actually lower your score.

I find it funny that Americans actually accept paying for THEIR credit scores. Its like someone has hijack part of your life away and you have to pay to get it back!

Umm, someone has to compile that info. Nothing in life is free.
