Ok, I just bought an IBM Active Response keyboard. It's so fvcking hard to type with! I strain my wrist just typing after 20 minutes. It's quiet, so that's a good part. The keys sometimes are either a) too responsive b) unresponsive. Sometimes, in games, I strafe left and it keeps going left even though I released the key. Sometimes, in games, I press strafe left and it immediatly strafes left. I have to press the keys damn hard though. Sometimes I misspell something like "fucing" instead of...you know the word.

So any suggestions on how to work with this keyboard? Any keyboard tweaking progs? Should I return this and use the $30 towards another keyboard?

As of the moment, I'm going to keep the keyboard for another few days. See if it "breaks" in and the keys might relax. If not, I'm gonna return this pos or give it to my sister.
 
Return the keyboard and see if you can get a full refund, if not buy a Logitech keyboard they are well made and competitively priced.

First visit their web site to read the specs on the keyboards and rate in order which is your favorite down to least favorite.

Anyway - for a year I've used a Logitech "natural" keyboard model Y-SD5. It is well made and compact and I like that, but only the function keys are programmable - there are no other special internet or multimedia type keys. It has a removeable plastic wrist rest, which I don't use, and its removal gives the k/board an even smaller footprint. It has a nice feel but is a bit noisy.

I've found that after using the natural type k/board for a while I find it harder to type well on a straight one. Maybe try some out at a big PC store if you can.
 
LOL I typed on the IBM one at CompUSA! Freakin keyboard! It was so nice at the store. It hurts my wrists at home! 🙁

I tried the MS Standard Keyboard and don't like it. The keys feel wierd. I don't feel like learning to play games again on a Natural keyboard. So.... 🙁
 
Does CompUSA let you have open-box returns? :|

I am gonna have to return this keyboard, or find a good use for it or my parents are gonna scold me. damn keyboard.....
 

If you still have all the packaging and repack it real nice most retailers I've dealt with will give you a full refund on something like that if you simply are not satisfied. If the packaging is gone they may not be so cooperative.

If they give you a hard time tell them you're getting carpal tunnel syndrome from it and you are a close friend of Johnie Cochran.

 
logitech doesn't make a wired natural keyboard do they? I should check out their site..

While I'm here, anyone have any complaits w/ wireless keyboards and gaming? I remember there was some problem before when hitting two keys at the same time...

I dunno bout the wireless keyboards but all I heard was, once they run out of batteries, the keyboard becomes unresponsive.

It took me about 20 minutes to adapt to the natural shape. The thing also corrected some very bad typing habits that i had developed over the past 5 years. One of which was where I would cross over to the other side of the keyboard at times. Although the shape is different, it fits the natural shape perfectly. I mean just set your hads on it and go. It has no learning curve whatsoever.

Plus the hotkeys are great. There is a nice MUTE button that i can hit and instantly mute the porno videos... whoops.

But there is even a button right about the numpad that brings up calculator. Very handy, I think.

The USB is great, I have my mouse plugged into it right now so it helps keep the behind the desk clutter down that way. Plus I can hook my gamepad or joystick up without having to get at the back of my computer. You would not believe how nice it is having a hub right there, its also great for my digital camera.
 
I'll post another positive vote for the MS Natural Keyboard Pro USB. I've had mine for around 8 months now and I love it! I stole it from Staples for $4 back when they had all the $xx off $xx coupons. I type about 20wpm faster and my technique is much closer to being correct. I hate MS, but both this keyboard and the IntelliMouse Explorer are worth buying at full price. Of course, I wouldn't recommend you pay full price 🙂
 
Way back in the old times, I bought the first MS Natural keyboard ever made. It was pricey when it came it (something ridiculous like $80), but man did it break a lot of bad typing habits. I used to strike the "Y" key with my left index finger when you're really supposed to be doing it with your right (the keyboard prevents you from doing it the "bad" way).

Unfortunately, my days of buying expensive keyboards are over. Because one of two things always seems to happen: 1) I wear the keyboard out; or 2) one of my brothers spills soda on it.

So, right now I'm typing on a $20 MS Internet keyboard after replacing a ruined Logitech Cordless iTouch (which I loved). But when I went to work to go buy a new one, the iTouch was out of stock and I just bought a cheapie because with my luck, someone will destroy it again. Heh, the story of my life 😛
 
Comp USA usually charges 15% if the box was opened but sometimes waives this.

Genuine IBM keyboard, 15 years old. Can't break it.
