i disagree. most of those apps suck. the majority of those 'apps' just add a 'shortcut' to the springboard of the iphone.

I dont think you are right... although the BofA app does seem to use the safari broswer sorta.

They still do not have a good calendar program or To Do List program

I love pocket informant and cant wait for it to hit iPhone

Not real impressed with the apps

I think the google app is good...Jott(voice recorder looks interesting..just d/led it) but this should have been part of the iPhone to begin with

The iPhone 3G still doesn't have MMS. That is unacceptable. Guess I will have to wait for the iPhone 3...

The Pandora Radio app is awesome.

I don't miss the MMS. I've sent and recieved maybe 2 MMSs in the past 3 years.

The new iPhone is a toy plain and simple. But, IMHO its missing some important things:

*No flash, java, or WMP support. Bye bye internet.

*$99 annual mobileme fee
*20GB online storage (200GB transfers)
* Push Mail (hello Blackberry!) with free @me.com email
* Address Book (Push)
* Calendar (Push)
* Gallery (Public Photo)

*No turn by turn guidance for GPS. Whats the point?

*No tethering.

*No cut and paste function.

*2 meg camera? You would think a phone like this would have 3. And NO VIDEO RECORDING. WTF?

*Stereo bluetooth is NOT supported. This was the final nail in the coffin for me.

*No MMS picture mail.

*STILL no replacable battery or flash card.

*3G is STILL slower than Verizon or Sprint's network.

*No file browser.

*Cannot save docs. Must be viewed as email attachments.

*No landscape SMS mode WTF lol

*No native IM apps.

*No MS Exchange support. Therefore, Outlook and Exchange contacts cant co-exist :(

*Why are we limited to Apple's Safari browser? Blech. It blows.

Anyway. I think its a great phone for some people. Just like every other phone, it has its niche.

Its pretty silly, but it works. Wave it around slowly, and you get the droning sound. Flick it and it sounds like lightsabers are crashing together. Pretty entertaining. :p

Overall its a pretty decent selection of apps, but nothing too far advanced from webapps, being that they cant run in the background. For instance, the AIM app is beyond stupid as you need to be actively running it in order to receive IMs.

Still gonna need to jailbreak if you want the really good apps.

I understand that you would want all these things, but things need to change so flash is not the dominant applications. It is a resource hog. Why would you need WMP support? You have Quicktime embedded.

Buy a GPS. The iPhone can't be a phone and your GPS receiver. The GPS is just for quick "Where am I?" moments. Ruins the battery.

That is annoying, but I don't think AT&T would allow Apple to let them enable that feature. It is more an AT&T thing than an Apple thing.

The camera is just for taking shots when you don't really need great pictures. When you do just take out your camera. Video recording can be enabled either through a software update or an app.

How is this any different from an iPod? At least this time they have the screws showing and the battery is soldered on.

Move to their network then. They both use EV-DO which is naturally faster.

This is not supposed to be replacing your computer at home. It is more a consumer device than a business device. But this can be fixed with a software update.

what do you mean by software update? do you mean the user can download a software update? Or are you implying it can be fixed without the hardware changing? Doesn't that make Apple look even more shortsighted for not providing that?

So the iphone is going to change the internet? LOL! Guess Ill be enjoying youtube, hulu, and so much more content by myself.

Why cant the iphone when so many other phones can? Pure and simple, Apple doesnt have a way to charge for it yet. As soon as they release the app, Im sure they will announce "we improved the gps function with our new navigator software", and the iclones everywhere will rejoice and sing praises to Steve's name!

If it was a AT&T thing, how come they havent disabled it for their Windows Mobile or Blackberry devices. Heck, using MPT, you can turn the crappiest motorola phone into a modem.

Then why havent they done it yet? People have been complaining about this since the original release.

Just for taking quick shots when you dont want decent pics? Someone forgot to tell Nokia, SE, and HTC, because they have phones with up to 5mp resolutions that take some pretty damn nice pictures.

Sure, bluetooth headphones will never beat a good headset in sound quality, but for many people, its more convenietnt to be wireless.

Your 16gb seems like alot now, but what about in a year. Already we are seeing 32gb and 64gb sd cards, and Sandisk is scheduled to release 16gb and 32gb microsd cards this year. Since many WM and some Symbian phones are being released with 8gb flash memory, and have microsd slots, that means up to 40gb storage. And not being able to have a extended battery or user replaceable battery may turn off heavy users like buisnesses.

Actually, HSDPA is capable of being about twice as fast as EVDO, but At&t hasnt rolled it out in the states. But does the iphone 3g even support HSDPA 7.2?

Why hasnt it been done yet? Apple knows ppl have wanted it since the iphone was released. Also, what about BES support? Blackberry and WM (thru a app) have it.

To be honest, Safari is pretty damn nice. If they would just get off their high horse and add flash and java, it be pretty damn near perfect.

Accept the fact that the iPhone is crap, n00b.

Its not his fault. He's got to justify the contract extention, sms plan, and extra $10 a month somehow!

Things need to change, therefore Apple wont include it on their "multimedia" phone? where's the logic? It is what it is, and right much of the internet requires flash. As far WMP support...do you know how much video is IN WMP format? Apparently not.

LOL why buy a GPS when many PDA's already do this? Isnt the point of buying a device like this to eliminate other devices? Some of us actually USE GPS on our phones for turn by turn directions...

They have quite a few other phones that tether...why not include it on their *cough* flagship multimedia phone? Is it because "things need to change"?

I think thats the best way to sum it up so far. Apple could own the market if they just did everything on that list (plus, sell it to other carriers). But sadly, unless they turn it around next generation (how long will we be saying this), the iphone will just become a funny 2 minute sketch on VH1's I love the new milleneum show in a couple of years, because other manufactures are listening to what customers want and implimenting it, not telling people that they cant have flash because we dont want to support Adobe.
