OMFG OMFG... I LOVE KLIPSCH!

Years ago, I bought the 5.1 ProMedia speakers. Yay, kickass, and lots of other 5.1 kudos happiness. Last month, the amp died, so I had to send the sub in for warranty work (3yr warranty from Klipsch, 4yr warranty from BestBuy). They sent me a shipping label, I boxed it up, and mailed it.

Four days ago, Monday, I called Klipsch to see what was taking my sub so long. The lady on the phone couldn't find my order by name, and I couldn't find the RMA number that I had written down. I'd searched all weekend, but couldn't come up with it so I thought I'd call them anyway. I thought I would just hang tight and see what happened. If she couldn't find my order by name, then who cares. The RMA would go through anyway. A few minutes later, I get a phone call on the same line from some other woman at Klipsch, asking for me by name. Funny, I didn't give them my phone number. So, if CallerID is the culprit, the lady on the phone then and the lady before were in the same call center. The second lady told me that she found my order, just tried spelling the name differently. She told me that they would be replacing my sub with the 5.1 Ultra sub because they were out of the standard 5.1 subs. Great! I asked if it would work with my standard 5.1 satellites and the standard 5.1 control module and she said yes. She said that the only real difference is asthetics. Awesome! A sub that will be better looking. Here is a picture of the 5.1 Ultras. The lady on the phone told me that it would be mailed the next day.

Sweet.

I got home today and there's a GIANT box on the floor in my room. It says Klipsch 5.1 Ultra on it. Yay! Klipsch is still cool! However, I was thinking to myself that the box was a little big to ship just a sub in it. I also noticed that the box was nicely taped down each steam with one piece of shipping tape -- kind of what you would see if you bought a box that was unopened, right off the shelf. What do I see when I opened it? A complete 5.1 Ultra speaker set. New MUCH better looking left/right, back/front, and center satellites. New MUCH better looking control module.

SWEET!!!!!
(dude, what's mine say?)

Anyone want to buy some standard 5.1 ProMedia satellites? 😀 😀 😀

damn...that's sweet. I have the 2.1's and love them...would never buy another computer speaker that wasn't Klipsch. Even home theater I'd buy Klipsch too....they rock!!!

yah... i heard they do that for whoever RMAs their original 5.1s... hmmm... maybe mine should go bad... ahem... jk... 😛

They did extend the original warranty for two more years free though... 😀 ...Klipsch is awesome. 🙂

Booo!!! Hissss!!!! 😛😀

Congrats on your new speakers. How come the normal one and the ultra one is only different by looks? and whats the point of buying the ultra over the normal one if it will sound the same?

I don't know. I was just thinking about that. I'm going to call and find out.

I have a set of Klipsch RF-3s for home theater and they are really sweet IMO. I can turn up the volume all the way on my Harmon Kardon AVR500 and get no distortion!!! It's too loud though at that volume for any length of time. Nice efficient speakers though.

If you're concerned about how they look. The others are pure black. These ones are black and silver, which match my desk's color scheme. Black and silver monitor, keyboard, mouse, and other PC accessories. Now I have a speaker system that matches. Other than looks, there's no difference. Performance is equal. However, would you rather drive a beat-up POS Porsch or a nice clean new one, if they drove the same? I know I wouldn't!

I dont know about the Ultras... but they sent me a registration form offering to extend the original warranty for the PM 5.1s supposedly because some people were having problems with it. Ive had mine for a little more than a year without anything wrong... that's a good thing... unless i want Ultra 5.1s... 😉 🙁

Take the warranty. My PM5.1s were working absolutely flawlessly before the amp died. And it wasn't a gradual thing. It was virtually over night.

I wanted the extra year. If you wouldn't buy it, great. But these are one of the few things that I'd buy a warranty on. Digicams, TVs, monitors, speakers, and things that cost 300/400+.

Looking at the regular one... it does look like crap compared to the ultra. sweet 🙂

Not bad, if you have $300 to spend on speakers...

someone is bitter 😛

Not really. The Klipsch are nice speakers, but I'd rather get Logitech Z640's and put the extra $250 towards something more important. The Klipsch are not $250 better than the Z640's, IMO.

What I am bitter about is that I didn't find the Z640's before I spend $100+ on my Altec Lansing 4100's. 🙁
