Lots of networking problems here...

I'm using the Linksys 802.11g USB adapter. It's a PAIN IN THE @$$! In order for me to use it, I need to use the stupid Linksys wireless utility. MSConfing/Spy Sweeper startup shields won't prevent it from opening... Sometimes when I'm using it, my connection to the internet will just suddently break off. I'll still be connected to my network at like 54mbps, but I won't get any internet connection. After I switch control over to the XP Wireless Zero utility, I just disconnect and reconnect and everything works fine. Also, I'm getting thie huge bottleneck problem... I'm downloading something @ 100kB/s right now and everything works fine. However, when I add another large download, my first one drops to about ~50kB/s, my Firefox starts getting really slow and keeps timing out, and I get like ~20kBs on my new download... It's incredibly annoying, and I have no idea what the problem is. I used some bandwidth testers a couple weeks ago with a laptop on my network, and it said I have a ~4.5 megabit connection. I tested it with this computer, and now it says I have a ~1.5 megabit connection... I'm using Roadrunner cable right now, and all of these problems are giving me a huge headache... If anyone has any solutions to any of my problems, I would greatly appreciate it.

*EDIT*
Yes, I know this is the wrong forum, and I'm sorry, but these problems are driving me crazy, and more people visit the General Hardware forum... I've tried pretty much everything already, and I still have no idea what's wrong.

Don't cross post.

Get a PCI card.

EDIT: Just checked it out, it isn't cross posting. This is just in the wrong forum. 😛

well if it is using usb1.1 that would be 12mbps, so yeah no bandwidth. As a rule of thumb keep networking away from USB 1 or 2. also try killing the wireless zero config service, that causes issues sometimes.
