Omega Vs ATI Vs DNA drivers

currently i use omega drivers.....i think theyre fine and use them for the built in overclocker
but i have just got powerstrip so im contemplating switching back to plain old ATI drivers

i have seen a article somewhere where they test these three drivers....and most of the time DNA provides the best performance.....but as the guy who did it did not include any screen shots or any kind of analysis on the image quality i dont know if the DNA drivers are getting extra performance through a downgrade in image quality

anyone help me out?

you dp realise you are asking for trouble with a post like this - unless you just wanted to light the blue touch paper and sit back 😉

from my perspective [as a cat user] i fnd that there is always an inherent bias in views and reviews of omega vs dna; ppl who like to use either driver will find ways to show their superiority [and are downright rude about the other driver and the person who tweaks them]; i think anyone writing these reviews should start with declaring how long they have known mr omega or mr dna for and/or what they did to pee them off!

that being said [and swiftly retreating behind my asbestos shield] my understanding was that omega were slightly faster than cat, but the latter provided better image quality. i have seen more positive reviews about omega than dna, but as i said the anti-dna sentiments were so blatant that there was obviously personality clash or other political motives behind the comments to some extent [dna ripping of omega tweaks etc].

Omega has been around for a long time, is well respected, and consistently cranks out top notch drivers.

Omega drivers for me.

agreed. i did seriously consider them this time round too but the diff between them and cat was relatively small so stuck with the official ones

Bah! When I got my new Sapphire 9800pro, all I used were Omega's - I enjoyed the overclocking utility that came with it also! Used Omega's with every new release, one day I swtiched back to stock drivers from ATI - spent countless hours benchmarking, googling over 3DMark 2001SE, 2003, Sandra, etc.

My conclusion: I spent too much time benchmarking and trying to get that extra frame-rate, I stopped and started to play games again - now I'm back to the regular ATI Cataylst drivers, I don't loose sleep over it anymore - worth it IMO, the difference was insignificant, if it were night and day then I might have another opinion 🙂

Official ATI drivers and Driver Cleaner makes me a happy gamerr,I always stick with official ATi drivers since I`ve never had any problems.

VTrider, you said a mouthful about overclocking ruining your gaming experience. I've spent so many nights overclocking my comp and benchmarking and not gaming that I'm out of the loop (but getting back in and happy).

You really said a mouthful!

I still mildly overclock everything I get my hands on. I just don't know if I noticed a performance difference between Omega's and ATI's, enough anyway to warrant one or the other? When I crank up everything at 1280x1024 w/4xAA + 16AF - I never ask myself if i'm using the right driver.
