1: what improvements to the omega drivers add (eg IQ, tuning options in control pannel...)
2: do you use/reccommend them?
3: is there anything i can gain from my 9600pro using omega drivers over cats?

The latest omega drivers gave me a big performance boost in far cry. They are based on the cat 4.5 beta, which will be likely incorporated in the next official release. But most releases seem about the same to me with my 9700pro.

Do NOT use Omega drivers!!! Use ATI's official drivers. ATI knows what they are doing because they created the hardware in the 1st place.:)

not sure why you're anti-omega, but i've been using them for a year plus and love 'em. omega was the guy who created an integrated driver that automatically did the famous 9500->9700 pro mod which worked great for me. he also integrated the driver and control panel into a single install LONG before ATI did (in fact, has ATI done this? i have no idea since i don't use ati drivers!), this alone was a major improvement as far as i'm concerned! for another thing omega includes some very spiffy extra apps that ati doesn't - oc utility integrated into the cp, very nice resolution setting/switching tool, and a cool config program that let's you set your display settings for particular apps. don't really know about what stuff he does under the hood but he claims to get better performance, i think i did compare the ati driver to his when i first upgraded to a 9800 and noticed a small difference on 3dmark2001 & aquamark.

good luck!

isn't he part of the catalyst beta testing team too? it seems he's more closely connected with ati than most people think...

i believe that is correct ... at least, i know that ati has actually given his drivers their approval and have worked closely with him on occasion.

I use the Omega drivers a lot on my Envy M855 notebook because ATI's drivers don't work by default with mobile chipsets. In the past, I ran my desktop with ATI's official drivers and the notebook with Omega's, but it became to much of a hassle to keep both drivers up to date. Especially since my notebook has evolved into my primary gaming machine. So far, I've found the Omega drivers to be reliable, on both my systems, however, I've never ran on comparison benches between official drivers and Omega.

Would be nice for AT or FS to do a comprehensive benchmark suite between the ATI/Nvidia official drivers and the ATI/Nvidia Omega drivers though.

Omega's Drivers Are GREAT! No doubt about it. You could say their perfect. He adds his own tweaks and support for card and they are great quailty. A boost in preformence comes with his set most of the time! I also Believe Ati gave him an award.
