Omega Drivers Performance Obviously Better Than Catalyst

I've used Omega drivers since I got my AIW Radeon9600Pro 2 weeks ago, and I've been very satisfied with it. I thought I'd try the Catalysts as well, just for the hell of it. I used the newest one, the hotfix for COD. Performance in the ATI demos such as the chimp demo, bear, and bacteria are quite obviously lower now than I had with the Omegas. I can actually see the choppiness where there was none before. In NHL2004 there is less difference; I couldn't tell by just playing. Also, the hotfix drivers only installed my card as Radeon 9600 Series. It didn't detect it as All-In-Wonder and as a result I can't use the TV. If anyone has a solution to this I'd appreciate it, but new drivers are coming this wednesday so that's okay.

Anyone know why this is? If Omega performance is better, why can't ATI just do whatever he did? I'll post again when and if I switch back to the Omegas.

I haven't used Omega's drivers till today,and I'm curious to check them.
I'll try the Omega drivers the next time I'm gonna update the drivers. My dial-up connection doesn't leave me with many choices. :(
Anyway from what I've read, they say the difference is unnoticeable most of the times between them.
Are there any differences between them (I mean official have drivers, control panel and hydravision) and also what's the approximate size of them?

I found the Omega driver are tweaked for perofrmance in games, and might test lower in 3dmarks than Cat.
I can barely play Madden 2004 smooth with bith aa/af turn of with cat., but once I installed opmega I am playing much better now with aa4/af8.

That's interesting. I have a Mobility Radeon 9000 and on my system the 3D Mark 2001 scores were higher with Omegas, but my Madden 2003 is much, much smoother than it was with the Omega drivers. By the way, Omegas are optimized for image quality, not performance.

I am using the Omega's on my Dell Inspiron 8100 (ATI Radeon 7500 Mobility 64MB) because Dell has not released new drivers in years! And I would say I am very happy with them.
