POST #3 - Rebate Issues:

Issue: I have one or more outstanding rebates from OMAX purchases and thus am reluctant to purchase additional MIR items from OMAX.
Response: Rebates can be a pain in the A$$ at times, no question about it. You have to do your part in filling everything out correctly (as best as possible), submitting the rebates within the timeframe listed on the rebate form, KEEPING COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU SUBMIT, and at times following up when rebates are overdue (including e-mailing or faxing your SAVED COPIES)! Most rebate forms provide CONTACT INFORMATION to the rebate processor (usually in the form of an 800 #). If you've gone down that that path and still haven't received satisfaction, OMAX has setup a special REBATE HANDLING GROUP accessible via e-mail: omxrebates@officemax.com. Several FW users have PM'd me success stories upon contacting OMAX via that e-mail address. It's your $$$, you may as well try and get it.

Issue: Where's the CORRECT OM-MIR for the Cendyne 52x INTERNAL CD-RW?
Response: Good question. I initially linked rebate #25P as I didn't pay careful enough attention. Further investigation led me to assume that perhaps rebate #63P (a Khypermedia 52x CD-RW) is correct. The Khypermedia 52x CD-RW is NOT advertised in the sales flyer I've been supplied with. It's possible that OMAX will be running 2 different sales flyers again though. If they don't, then most likely rebate #63P is the correct rebate w/ a TYPO in the MFR name. Either way, OMAX has to make good on the $30 OM-MIR as they've advertised it. If you try resolving the matter by e-mailing OMAX (omxrebates@officemax.com) and are unsuccessful, you can always charge OMAX back $30 through your credit card company!

*UPDATE* Several users at both FW & AT have reported that their local OMAX's claim Rebate #25P will be honored as the Cendyne OMAX-MIR. OMAX has apparently documented this in the 7/27-8/2 Quick Reference Guide (QRF); however, as of yet I haven't gotten my hands on that guide.

Issue: The Cendyne MFR-MIR form states "Offer good on purchase of a Cendyne Product (model numbers listed above), at OfficeMax, from 07-20-03 through 09-13-03 ... Limit ONE rebate per person." If I purchased a Cendyne MFR-MIR eligible product during the previous OMAX sale (7/20 - 7/26), am I still eligible to apply for another Cendyne MFR-MIR this time?
Response: According to the terms & conditions of the rebate form, it looks like you're not eligible. In the previous OMAX sales flyer, OMAX advertised multiple Cendyne products as MFR-MIR rebate eligible. In that situation, all advertised Cendyne MFR-MIRs must LEGALLY be honored (if not by Cendyne then by OMAX). Because of the previous sales flyer situation, it's probable that Parago (the rebate processor) was instructed to allow MULTIPLE REBATE SUBMISSIONS for the Cendyne MIR form (provided the multiple submissions are for different items). At any rate, if you process your rebates on-line (at www.rebateshq.com), any rebates which get rejected as "duplicate submissions" can often be successfully disputed. Parago tends to frequently issue "One time courtesy approvals." Finally, if you present Parago w/ an argument as follows, you'll probably get your rejected rebates approved as well: All Cendyne rebate eligible items were ADVERTISED in OMAX sales flyers. Denying any such submissions as duplicate is FALSE ADVERTISING. YMMV. POST #4 - Frequently Asked & Stupid Questions: (Back by popular demand!)

Q: I purchased the WD 40 GIG HDD last week w/ MFR-MIR "OFFER A." Can I buy the WD 120 GIG HDD this week and still take advantage of "OFFER B" on the same MFR-MIR form?
A: Scroll down to the SECOND PAGE of the MFR-MIR form. Pay careful attention to the CHECK BOXES for OFFERS A - F. The ACTUAL REBATE OFFER #s are listed below each entry. Given that each REBATE OFFER is a different OFFER #, based on the info listed in canydavid's OMAX FAQ, you are entitled to take advantage of EACH LISTED OFFER.

Q: Some of the items which are coming up on sale are no longer showing up on-line. What gives?
A: This is typical OMAX behavior. A day or two before a new sale starts, OMAX removes most of the HOT sale items from their web-site. Usually by NOON EST of the day the sale starts most of the items are placed back on-line (but not ALL items are restored right away). Furthermore, OMAX has a nasty habbit of not always reflecting the SALE PRICES on some items once they put them back on-line. You're welcome to place your order at 12:01am on the day the sale starts and then CALL OMAX for price adjustment(s); however, doing so risks having the OMAX CSR remove your coupon from your order (assuming your order contains FAR ITEMS). A safer way to handle this matter is to request price adjustments AFTER YOUR ORDER HAS ARRIVED. If you get a CSR who refuses to pricematch because you used a cpn (or wants to remove the cpn upon PM'ing), tell him/her to just leave things "as-is." Then call back and try your luck w/ another CSR. Worst case scenario? Return the incorrectly priced items. You'll lose a pro-rated portion of your coupon upon such returns.

Q: Where are the Hi-Val 100pk CD-R's advertised?
A: In the same spot as where the Khypermedia 100pk CD-R's are advertised. OMAX lists 2 SKU/ITEM #'s in that spot. One ITEM # is for the Khypermedia CD-R's, the other is for the Hi-Val CD-R's.

Q: I initiated my OMAX.COM session using a coupon and added all of my items to my shopping cart. While in my shopping cart page the coupon is there; however, once I get to the ORDER CHECKOUT PAGE my coupon is gone! What's going on?!
A: It looks like OMAX.COM has added the ability to track coupon usage by user account. Thus they're now able to enforce the intended ONE TIME USAGE aspects of their coupons. That said, there are (for the time being) several ways around this:
1) Use a different coupon (i.e. one you haven't used before)
2) Check out using MSN Wallet (this basically creates a new OMAX.COM user account on the fly)
3) Create another OMAX.COM user account and check out using that account

Q: How do you handle the two Western Digital MIRs? Don't both MIRs require the ORIGINAL UPC CODE?
A: No, only the OM-MIR requires the UPC CODE at all (although you should include a UPC COPY w/ the MFR-MIR if you submit it ON-LINE). The MFR-MIR requires the CAPACITY LABEL (i.e. the square on the front of the packaging which says "120GB"). On older style WD packages, the UPC CODE happens to be "attached" to the CAPACITY LABEL. When removing the CAPACITY LABEL (for the MFR-MIR), do not include the ORIGINAL UPC CODE with the MFR-MIR! The OMAX-MIR requires the ORIGINAL UPC CODE.
Note: The PDF file of the WD MFR-MIR (linked in the OP) shows a SAMPLE CAPACITY LABEL.

The #25P rebate is for the external drive, not the internal drive. I can't find a different $30 OM MIR for the internal, though. Perhaps it's a typo? Or maybe it's an instant rebate?

I've gotten all OMax rebates. Once they tried to deny one because they thought it was for a different product, so I sent them copies of the info. I think someone on their end mistyped something. Got the rebate in the end.

I hope the stuff for Package Deal #2 comes online, 'cause I got no OMax near me.

In looking at the rebate form for the Cendyne52x, on form Pcash, I see a $30 rebate, but that is for the Cendyne EXTERNAL. Any ideas how/if that will be corrected

I would personally jump on some of these deals if it were not for the rebates. The Diggler obviously put a LOT of effort into this thread and it is much appreciated. The big issue here is that most if not all of these deals are dependent on one or more rebates. Unfortunately, I cannot remember getting an OM rebate either on-time or without having to go to my local OM and making some noise. My last OM purchase was for the Pacific Digital DVD drive during last Thanksgiving (it ended up costing $2.50 after 2 rebates). After calling numerous time I finally found someone at corporate who got the last rebate fulfilled - only 6 months after purchase!

IMHO OM-related rebates rate at the very top of the hard-to-get rebates and getting them at all can be YMMV. You have to ask yourself if it is really worth all the paing and agony of trying to get your rebates fulfilled? My time is valuable and these OM deals would end up costing me dearly, if I were to take "advantage" of them. Thanks again for all of your work Diggler ....

In order to get the Mad Dog & Cendyne rebates, you need to register the drive with the company. I'm not sure what's involved with registration, because I haven't done one on a drive before, but hopefully someone else here can explain.
