OMax Freebie CD rom is a turd? Suggestions?

I just installed the "50x" Prime Peripherals (Afreey) CDROM and this sucker is posting terrible Sandra benchmarks. DMA is enabled and this is reading at 15X max using manufactured CDROM's (Not CD-R). Could this item be defective or are they all junk?

You said in the header that it was a freebie. Guess there's not much to complain about. On a positive note if those low speeds mean it's quiet (low rotational speed) then I might have to look into getting one of those . . .

I'm not complaining for a freebie, but it seems pretty slow and I'm wondering if this is the ususal performance for this drive or whether I need to swap it out for another at the store.
