Olympus releases E-M5 mk 2, and "air clip" cameras

I never really understood the form factor of these air clip type cameras. If it's meant to clip onto your phone, why shove all the electronics behind the lens/sensor and make it longer than it needs to be? As photographers, we're used to carrying around spare lenses and their form factor, but I think the target audience for this would be more expecting something shaped like a P&S.

i dont get it also. i guess sony must be doing something right for olympus to copy.

I get the idea but I don't really see the point of them. You're just replacing the P&S with this attachment and a lens which you'll have to carry and store. At least with a P&S you can stuff it in your pant pocket. Don't think this will fit anything except a jacket pocket or purse.

And I think Apple isn't going to be too happy with them using "Air" too.

I like the idea of it being natively controlled by your phone. This allows interesting remote mount possibilities such as mounting it to the front of your car or something. Mount it on a pole and you'll be able to see what it's shooting. Put it in a waterproof container, mount it on a pole and stick it under the water while monitoring the shots from above.

Think of it like a remote-controlled GoPro with a higher-quality, interchangeable lens and bigger sensor. Of course it is not as durable as a GoPro due to the moving parts in the lens, but the plus side of it is the ability to use telephoto, large aperture, or other lenses instead of the fixed-focus, wide-angle on the GoPro.
