Does the Olympus D-360L digital camera work with Windows XP? Does it need newer software than what comes with it? Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by "work." Digital cameras work and really have no need of being connected to the computer. Get a Smart Media reader (about $25) and install it. XP loves 'em. Then you simply take the media out of the camera and put it in the reader and you have all your images on a lettered drive.

I am on my 5th Olympus digital, and learned right away not to even bother with Camedia Software.

corky-g, by work I mean can one download the pictures from the D-360L digital camera under Windows XP? I know it would work with a Smart Media reader, but I was wondering about it working with the serial port.

amdskip, that's a good question. I'm helping someone with this, so I don't know much about that D-360L camera. They've been using it with the serial port connection to get their pictures on a Windows 95 machine. Now they have an XP machine. I guess it's possible that the D-360L also supports USB, but they didn't use it since Win95 doesn't really support USB. Can anybody tell me for sure if the Olympus D-360L has a USB interface? That'll be a much faster and better way to get the pics if it does.

The D360L does not have a USB port. Here are the specs from Olympus:

D360L

The next question is, are you connecting it to a dedicated live serial port on your computer? XP will show that in Device Manager under Ports.

And, yes, you might need a later version of Camedia software. I believe that they are now past version 5.0. Have you checked the Oly web site for downloads?

corky-g, the camera is plugged directly into one of the serial ports on the back of the computer. COM 1.
