You have to add it to your cart to see the price to show. Free shipping. There are other threads here and at Fat Wallet that discuss this camera. The main advantage is it's excellent 10x optical lens.

how does it compare with C2100? both are $400.

The 2100 uses an "optically stabilized" 10x zoom, which helps keep those telephoto shots from blurring. The 2100's lens is a Canon, and the same one used in Canon's Pro90IS. If I had a choice, I'd definitely get the 2100 over the C-700. See my example pics here:

potcedotcom, those are awesome shots! I just feel the yellowflower.jpg needs one photoshop auto balancing though. It's a little bit too white to me.

This is not a real deal.

I just picked up this camera and WOW!

Though it is obly a 2.1 MP camera the quality is great.

This camera will do anything you want it to --- fully automatic all the way to you controlling every aspect of speed etc.

I found an e-tailer that had it for $329 then pricematched with Sears B&M

This camera kicks butt !

I agree. . these shots were taken before I got my UV filter. It is like putting sunglasses on a camera. Pictures are much more colorful (and less washed out) in bright sunlight. I have more pics that were taken over Memorial Day holiday which I will post soon. We were at the lake, so I got some good JetSki action shots.

Good luck finding one at that price (new). CompUSA had them on special on Memorial Day for $399 online only, and they were sold out in a few hours. They still sell it for $499 at B&M's, but considering it was orig. $999, I had no problem paying $499 for it (got it at WalMart B&M). Good luck.

Check out the Olympus forums at dpreview.com, and you'll see some enthusiastic C-2100 owners.

Basically says $100 off at B&M's through this weekend (Sat. June 8th). RUN, not walk to your B&M CompUSA and buy one. You will not be disappointed!

Put in your zip code in the box. The $100 off is for B&M only. Print out the page and take it to the store with you. . just in case.

Definitely get the C-2100UZ if you can. A lot of the CompUSA B&M still have it in stock. The ones in the Dalla area are still showing 499.99 on the shelf tag. Not sure if the correct price has been updated in the system yet. Print out the ad and you should have no problem. The C-700 is a good camera, but the image stabilization really makes a difference, and is well worth it to find one. Most people who bought this camera last year felt they were still getting a bargain at $1000. Overall an excellent camera. I just got mine yesterday and have been very impressed so far. Only 2 complaints so far - no lens cap strap to keep from losing the cap, and smartmedia instead of cf, so you are limited to a max 128mb card for now, and obviously no microdrive support.

I went to my local CompUSA last night to check it out. Seems nice except the typical "head up his ass" salesman wouldn't put a Smartmedia card in it so I could try it out... I could get it to focus or use any of the menu's and the response was "oh it must be broke". So they expected me to buy a camera that I couldn't try and then if I didn't like it they would want me to pay 15% restocking fee.

That and I already have to C-3040Z... going back to 2.1mp seems like a step backwards but that zoom was nice. Another problem with this camera is it's size, it's huge with that honk'n lens on it. Might just buy a EagleEye OpticZoom lens for my 3040Z... but of course with all the needed adapters that thing is going to cost almost as much as the 2100. Choices, choices.

too bad... don't olympus cameras all use smartmedia? seems pretty clear that smartmedia has lost to compactflash...

Most Olympus use smartmedia, but they do make a few high end cameras that use both smartmedia and cf. In fact, the C-2100 uses some shared body parts with the c-2000, i think, which supports both cf and smartmedia. When you open the side door for the memory slot on the c-2100, it is obvious that there is room for a second slot, they just decided not to include it on this model.

Well, I too thought that the 2.1 MP would be a downside to this camera but it truly is not. With the wonderful 10x zoon there is no need to digitally zoom on any subject and there is still enough detail that you can crop your pictures with whatever software you have and still get a good 5x7 out of it.

Now, if you have a high MP camera already and CAN add an additional lens I would think that would be the ultimate camera deal for you.

Anything over 2MP is somewhat of overkill for the average Joe.

Everyone here is praising the 2100, but they are missing one key point... In shot to shot comparisons the C-700 takes slightly better pictures. I own the C-700, and my father owns the 2100, and while both are great cameras, in my experiance with them the color balance on the 2100 is slightly more inaccurate then the 700. I think if you go to www.dpreview.com and go to the olympus forums, you'll find this is fairly common opinion.

Also, another warning. IS is NOT a failsafe thing. At 10x zoom (hell, 8x even) in anything less then bright days you will still need a tripod to get shots with no motion blur. Now, if you still need it for the long shots, IMHO you might as well not have it as I can handhold my c-700 with no probs up to say 6x or so in most conditions(It should be noted, however, that I'm pretty experianced with cameras, so YMMV).

Oh, one last key point. The C-700 is still small enough where you can tuck it in a glovebox or in a large coat pocket and look halfway casual. The 2100 is a monster, and unless you wanna look like a photographer and a tourist wherever you go, don't even think about using it.

If anyone has any questions for me, or wishes to see my gallery, PM me and I'll try and help you out!

One other thing, the 700 does not come with NiMH batteries and a charger, or a remote control. And if you plan on messing around with the movie capability, there is no external mic jack on the 700. I have not really experimented with the movie mode, so I cannot tell if that would be a problem or not.

Of course, Amazon probably won't charge you tax, where most people are going to get stuck with tax on the CompUSA deal. $40.00 would easily get you 8 NiMHs and a decent charger, and you would come out a little ahead.

I personally prefer the 2100. I prefer the size compared to the 700. Of course, I also routinely carry a Canon EOS SLR with 2 lenses and external flash while on vacation, etc, so the 2100 feels extremely lightweight to me, and fits my hand better. Personal preference, really. I doubt anyone would go wrong with either camera, they both have their good points and not so good points.

The only other digicam I would get would probably be a Canon s200, or similar size camera, that would easily slip in a pocket on short notice. That would make a pretty good digital combination, IMHO.

The C700 is obsolete the C720 just came out with 3MP instead of 2MP and it has a 8X zoom instead of a 10X good trade off I think and that DP review place had it listed as the Hottest camera going. Me personally would never own the 2100 it is too damn big and 2.1 MP not cool for the price. Jason Sell me your 3040 for $350 + shipping :p

True, Olympus just released the 720, but the lowest street price I have been able to find is $519.95+shipping. Price may come down in a few months, and if Dell starts to carry it you could probably swing a decent deal there. However, 400 for either the 700 or 2100 is still a good deal, and for the average user 2.1MP is perfectly fine.
