I saw in one of those "two weeks only" color flyers in the local OfficeMax that the Olympus C-700 camera was reduced from $500 to $300. The OM website still lists it at $500. Use the $50 off $250 and call OM to pricematch to the local stores (at least I didn't have problems doing that). Final price $250 + tax shipped free. This is a highly-regarded camera, and the 10X _optical_ zoom is fantastic: it's equivalent to a 380mm telephoto lens for 35mm cameras.

Anyone here have this and can give pros/cons or compare it with other cams, especially the A40. The 10X zoom sounds nice, i like the size, but it's an extra 50 over the A40, and almost as much as that deal on the Fuji 6800.

SCTrojan - The 10X optical zoom lens on this camera is fantastic. You use this camera for awhile, and you will not be disappointed. Great price also. Compare? LOL, 10X, 10X, 10X, 10X! Did I mention the 10X lens?

Taking a quick glance at the specs I think the Olympus C-700 beats the Canon A40.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two digicams, review links at the top of the page underneath the digicam names.

it's about time they put a 10x flash on a digital camera heh, how come I see all these cheap camera recorders with 20x optical zooms yet digital cameras always have a skimpy 3x or somesuch

i have a c700uz (ultra zoom) I think you're referring to the same thing, it's a great camera. Bought it for some 500 dollars originally.

Digital Cameras always have issues with night shots....but then so do regular cameras.

This is an awesome deal. I think I'm gonna go ahead and get it. I did searches on the internet and couldn't find this model for anything near $300 (new). The brand is one that I trust, the specs are great, and the price is the lowest I've seen.

Any opinions before I go out and shoot a $250 wad on this new toy?

Remember Oly's use SM (I think), if you can get this for $250 that's a great deal, GO FOR IT!

Man 10x is kick @ss! The only problem is that it says that this camera is a 2.0 mega pixel camera, w/ most cameras now being 3.0mpixels kinda makes me hesitant, but otherwise I'd probably already be ordering this..

Yeah. I've heard that 3MP is ideal in most cases. I'm trying to find one of those websites that shows side-by-side comparisons of pictures taken with different cameras.

Looks like a great deal... just keep in mind that it's hard to take good shots at 10X zoom without some form of image stabilization. I believe Olympus makes a higher end version of this camera with IS. I used to have a Sony Mavica with 10X zoom and it was great but it was a real effort to keep the camera steady when shooting at full zoom.

You're correct. The Olympus C-2100 has IS if I remember correctly. I don't think you'll be able to find it for under $500 new. Most consumer stores don't carry it.

I don't suppose the C-720 is on sale as well? That's the 3MP equivalent. I'd jump on that one for a bit more.

Yeah the C-2100 has IS, but unfortunately, its discontinued so finding it is very hard to do. I remember these went for a really good price like 300 a while ago and people grabbed em left and right.

The thing with the C-700 is that it has no IS, has slight probs with Barrel Distortion when close to objects, and has some decent moire probs (purple fringing). On top of that, I hate Smartmedia...

Personally, I'll pass on this deal. If this was the C-720 with 3MP/8x Opt Zoom, I might jump on it....

I wouldn't touch a Kodak digital camera (trying hard not to laugh) with a 10 foot pole. The only reason my wife loves her Kodak DX3700 (3 megapixel) is it's easy to use, period. Otherwise it SUCKS hard core.

i like kodak. i have a kodak 4800 that i use MUCH more than my olympus 3000
plus they are the ONLY ONE out of them, canon or olympus to ship me a NEW product BEFORE i shipped the broken one back... can't beat that kind of customer service. canon and olympus, for minor/doa problems? "uh, ship it to us and we'll tell you how much it costs to fix it..."
but i use my canon s-10 MUCH more than either... also using my olympus d-100 a lot also... to each their own. convenience/compactness is key for me
this is a good deal, in case i confused somebody :)
