Olympics tunneling

Hey guys,

I'm leaving the US for the next two weeks, and I'd like to be able to use NBC's video service. I have a laptop running Vista and a desktop computer running XP. Is there a way of using my XP computer as a proxy so I can see the videos from abroad?

Thanks.

I can get to NBC, but the videos won't play. It only works when you have an US IP. One of my colleagues is already there and he's telling me he can't see them.

NBC is blocking any address outside the US for olympic content. google "usa free proxy"...there are plenty out there. alternately, you could use hamachi to VPN back through your home connection.

Hamachi will not allow him to access his home connection remotely (by itself). He would have to setup Hamachi and then set up ICS on his Hamachi NIC (home PC) and then configure his laptop to use the home computer Hamachi address as his default Gateway.

It would be easier to just RDP his home machine and watch the vids that way (bandwidth permitting).

RDP was not designed for video...quality and fps would be sub-par.

Have you thought about putting in a cheap TV tuner (set to NBC) and using Orb (www.orb.com)?

I use Orb and control one of my satellite boxes remotely, works great. Good for mp3's, stored video, and files too. You can get video to anything with a decent browser ( I send to my 8525, Q, and BlackJack II, as well as my laptop while I'm on the road. I also have my security cameras tied in, so I can check them too).

All you need for decent video is ~384-512K uplink on your broadband connection.

Check it out.

Scott
