Agreed. I hate having to watch a video to know what's going on in a thread. I can be halfway through an article before most videos start playing.

I don't even bother most of the time, unless it's clear that pictures are necessary for the story. i.e. the castle story posted elsewhere today. Before someone mentions "brothel... pictures!" it's CNN - they're not going to have video of the girls.

+1 as well. And it seems they are getting more prevalent. Once upon a time there were only one or two. Now they seem to be most of the headlines
