I don't understand the trendy hate of Olive Garden. I don't particularly like it, but I don't see how it's any worse than O'Charleys, Applebees, ect. Maybe the 'American' casual dining restaurants are a little better IMO just because they're more random. Lots of varied 'American-style' food that is obviously not fine dining, but also hard to complain about unless you're just a total prick.

yeah I hate them all. I'm a total prick.

Who cares what it is? I work with a guy who is a beer/food snob. Olive Garden is shit, all chain pizza places are shit, Bud/Miller/whatever-is-popular is shit. I hate this attitude. If my taste buds like it, then I'll eat it. I give zero fucks if Olive Garden is "real" Italian or not, it makes for a good meal most of the time.

Hey, if you want to call me a food snob because I don't like eating junk food from some faceless company served by bratty teenagers and adult losers then go right ahead. I'm such a terrible guy for liking to eat local from family owned places where the people making and serving the food care about the product and care about me as a customer - and instead of making some executive rich I am enriching the lives of those owner/operators directly.

So yeah, I guess that makes me a food snob.

you food snobs are pathetic, at least be honest and say "I just don't like Olive Garden, but yeah it's Italian food"

They serve SPAGHETTI WITH FUCKING MEATBALLS & Lasagna. We can debate all day if it's good Italian or not, but to say it's not Italian's just plain retarded. While I don't find it to be particularly great Italian, I've had authentic Sicilian Italian food and wasn't all that wowed by it either *shrug*

It doesn't make us food snobs because we won't eat disgusting Crap. It just proves you have no palate for food.

I'm all for the local thing but let's face it, pasta is pasta, kinda hard to screw it up that bad where you call it "junk food". I guess Outback is OMG! "junk food" as well, right?.

Snobs aren't the people who just don't like a place, they're the ones who shit and piss all over it and make ridiculous ass comments like "it's not even Italian food!" There's a big difference between a person who simple doesn't like a place, and one who chastise others and call them stupid for liking it. Your palate comment makes me believe you're one of the snob ones. Anyone who doesn't think exactly like you has to be wrong, amirite?

No, your full of crap, I've been to OG and "disgusting" not found, not sayin there's not better Italian food to be had, but describing OG as "disgusting crap" is a joke, another keyboard snob, ATOT has ton's of 'em.

What you're missing is that your upstanding, selfless support (GOD BLESS YOU SON) of these businesses has nothing to do with it. You just enjoy feeling superior.

Those of us who are not either fatasses or pompous prudes don't get offended by the occasional bit of competently-executed, albeit basic, food. Unhealthy? Yeah. It's also hot, tastes decent, and satisfies hunger.

Last time I ate at a casual restaurant, I had some kind of pasta dish. The pasta was neither tremendously over- or undercooked. Nor was the chicken that went with it. It had some kind of terribly-fattening buttery sauce that also tasted fine. I did not confuse it for three-star Michelin. I also did not spit in the waiter's face and or defecate in the middle of the kitchen in an act of egregious contempt.

Your high horse. Get off it.

Yeah, I am going to have to disagree.

Their dishes are full of sodium and MSG, not to mention whatever else the food processor is using - everything they sell comes off of a truck. No thanks. Pass. I guarantee the people working there can't even tell you what's in the food.

The last dish I hate from Olive Garden was simple spaghetti and meat sauce (this is an American Italian dish - no one in Italy would serve this). It was so salty I couldn't eat it. The bread sticks were so salty I had to wash them down with coke. They were coated in something, not butter, probably a whipped and melted "super oil" like canola oil (which is bad for you).

Sorry, I must be a snob because I'm not a blind troll who just shoves whatever corporate decides down my throat.

Olive Garden doesn't use MSG sorry, you sound like a snob, and a moron. I won't even get into how their food doesn't come off a truck, I also chuckled at the obvious typo "the last dish I hate from Olive Garden"

Did the CEO of Olive Garden rape a family member or something?

30+ replies, no one even mentioned that the fact all their hot foods were cooked else where and shipped to your local Olive Garden. they just use microwave to reheat and serve the food there. they don't really cook anything there, next time you go there, try to find a kitchen exhaust system would require for a typical Italian restaurant of that size, you won't find one, cuz you don't really need one for microwave ovens. That is the biggest scam.

Link or complete bullshit, I personally know someone who worked there and the food was cooked at location. I know DD does this but that's donuts.

They also serve spaghetti with meat sauce/spaghetti bolognese. That's 100% not Italian; a meat sauce does not go over a thin strand pasta like spaghetti because it doesn't stick. Spaghetti is meant to be eaten with a thin, light sauce like something olive oil based (or even just straight olive oil).

Gee, I've been to more than one Italian restaurant that was not an OG and they had OMG! spaghetti and meat sauce!, shocking!. OG also has hot, fresh baked bread with a delicious olive oil sauce to dip it in. It's amazing that food you say sucks so bad has a line waiting for a table, are that many people loving crappy food that much? if it's as bad as you claim it to be why do they keep coming back?, please post a link that definably states that all of OG's hot dishes are microwaved, from a truck, you cant because it's a load of crock.

Lemme think, hmm, must be about a million ways to prepare pasta, who are you to claim whats "Italian" or what's not, are you an expert or yet another keyboard snob, I'm going with the latter..

How dare a place that serves spaghetti and similar dishes claim they're an Italian restaurant! They're almost as bad as that place called Red Lobster that claims they serve seafood.

I know the OG around the way from me always is packed and usually has a 30 or so minute wait. So at least some people believe it to be Italian food, or at least enjoy what's being served enough to keep it packed.

lol. what does that have to do with anything?

KFC is often packed, too. Yet that isn't fried chicken. go figure.

I'm incredibly curious to know what undercover scientific discovery you have made, that has found that chicken, that is breaded, and then fried, is not fried chicken.

Please, the world needs to know this obviously warped state of physics.

Please get educated in how much MSG is in most tomato based sauces and drinks. It is a shit ton.

The problem is, once a tomato over ripens, it begins to produce MSG within it. Since tomato sauces and drinks made in mass are almost always made from very over ripened tomatoes, they will almost always have a high MSG content.

Don't get me wrong, I'd certainly eat Olive Garden if I was hungry and it was convenient. It's been a few years since I've eaten there, and I don't remember it being "bad", but I certainly wouldn't pretend that it's real italian food.

Source? MSG =/= glutamic acid.
