That college is more of a way of life and an educational experiment.

That's going to have to be your choice, I'm sure the education will be excellent and the whole free thing is nice too. Also, you'll probably be able to go somewhere nice for grad school like MIT.

It's your decision, if you want a college experience or something more radical. Personally I chose the big college/greek life but if that Olin lifestyle seems like your cup of tea, go for it, your education won't be hurting.

Is this the college that lets in 50 people a year, doesn't charge any tuition, and has top-notch professors from the best colleges around the country?

If so, I got a crap load of information from then when I was senior in high school. I decided even if I were to get in, I would hate going to a college that small.

No it's not that one, where you have to do farmwork to pay for the tuition in the middle of nowhere, this has 5 year contract professors and is supported through some sort of fund and allows ~300 students in a year.

I have to say I agree with you, 1200-1500 people are not a lot, my high schools have all been at least twice that size and yeah, I think tis bound to be boring, but hey you may develop some very strong friendships with such a small school, who knows.

It is is Boston, and is located right next to a couple other colleges. Babson I think
So the way of life is different from, say University of Rochester (my #1 school right now)

How so?

Will it be evident when I visit it?

Note - you are pretty much on the same campus as Babson College (my ala mater), so there's more students around. Wellesley College is down the street. And you're about 30 minutes from Boston.

But it is a small campus in the suburbs.

I'd like that

Since you're familiar with the area, I have a couple questions

Where is the nearest good ski area?
Any golf courses nearby?
What does the campus look like, their webcam didn't show much...
How easy is it to get onto a road that'll bring me to NH?

Thanks

Edited because I can't spell

Well college at least in my mind invokes parties, greek life, a multitude of student organizations, supporting your alma mater's sports teams and going to boring lectures and discussions. Uni of Rochester is pretty like that.

Olin is almost the complete opposite. I think it's more focused on project rather than book learning, but also has no greek life(which is what I was most excited about, and why I chose the largest greek school in the nation, U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign;Psi U Omnicron baby), and instead of 1 college, its more like a multi school experience because Olin shares clubs and intermural sports and classes with the neighboring colleges. It's just this radical college experience that wont be understood by most people, but in the end I guess could be a really special experience.

I have to say though, it ranks impressively high in student happiness though.

Check out Babson's website - http://www.babson.edu/

It'll have more maps, pics of the area. To be honest, I graduated in 2001 right before they broke ground at Olin (former Babson athletic fields), so I don't know what the actual Olin campus looks like but it's literally 100 yards from Babson's campus which I assume you have full access to.

The nearest ski area's are going to around 45 minutes west, Mt. Wachusett and Nashoba Valley but they're very small ski places. You'll need to drive 1.5-2.5 hrs to New Hampshire or Vermont to get to nicer/bigger ski resorts.

There is actually a gold course across the street from Babson but you have to be a member. But there's a public golf course just a couple of miles away - http://www.golflink.com/golf-c...urse.asp?course=465845

In regards to NH, you're only a mile from Rt 9 which is only a mile from Rt 128/95. Rte 128/95 will take you to Rt 3 or Rt93 that will take you to NH. About 45 minutes to an hour to the NH border.
