Olevia 37" LCD $599 @ Frys/Outpost.com

I was in Fry's yesterday (Fountain Valley CA) and they were wheeling out all the Presidents Day Merchandise. I noticed about 10 Olevia 37" LCD's so I figured it was for the President's Day sale, off course the associate said there woudl be no sale but there they are right on the homepage. Link

$18 ground shipping to Wisconsin, so tempting..... the roomie got the 42" version of this we have no complaints.

can't really beat the price. but for $1200 I think I'd rather grab a true 1080p sceptre lcd w/ higher resolution letting it dub as your htpc panel. Plus no built in tuner.

overall a decent deal but for a little more cash you can have alot better/bigger TV.

I have the 32" Olevia and it is great. For those that complain about no tuners, how many of you don't have a box? 4% of you? With comcast I pay $5 more, get all the HD channels, get HD onDemand. Why waste time with an antenna?

whats no tuner mean? im not tv literate.

It means the LCD doesn't have a built-in HD Turner therefore if you want to watch HD channels you'll need to buy a seperate HD Tuner.

I wanted to get this for my kitchen wall so Id like to have a tuner cause I have no room for a cable box.

Just a few issues with this:

First, $1200 is twice the price of this set.
Second, an external tuner is $100-200.
Last, if you're going to use it for an HTPC panel, it would imply you have an HTPC. That means you have a tuner right there, correct? Otherwise it's not really an HTPC 🙂

Yeah, 1080p would be nice, but if you're going to game on it, you'll need a high end video card for that res. And 1080i looks great scaled to 720p on a 37" set, so unless you're getting HD-DVD or Blu-Ray soon, it's not worth $600.

1) The sceptre comes with a media/tuner box. Its being sold as a bundle by resellers now. Check newegg.

2) $1200 is 2x the price, but your getting a much better TV, higher rez, 5in bigger, more inputs w/ the media box.

3) Even if your not getting HD or blu-ray RIGHT NOW, why not be prepared.

4) If your going to use the TV as any type or PC monitor, then you need that higher resolution.

Like I said its a good deal if you cannot afford the $600 extra, BUT even if you cannot afford the $600 extra I strongly recommend costco.com for the 37" Sceptre 1080p set.

As always, you get what you pay for.

I ordered this one last month. It is HDTV ready W/ HDMI.
It does NOT have regular TV turner. (coaxial input and output is NOT present)

If you going to use it as regular cable TV, you will NEED a VCR or DVD player with TV-turner and RCA out. Such as BESTBUY's

Lite On Progressive-Scan Multiformat DVD-R/-RW/+R/+R DL/+RW Recorder
Model: DD-A100GX (this model can easily convert into region-free) And DVD recording quality is NOT bad at all!!!!!

So..... put it this way... for $599(LCD TV) + $79 (DVD recorder/player) still a very good deal!!!!!!!

its just money man, just $$$$

I'm not rich by any means but I work hard to obtain the things I want. If I'm here buying a LCD TV, then its going to be the Sceptre 37" or 42".

Olivia is not a bad brand specially the screen is produce by one of the largest manufacture in Taiwan, called Kolin. The Quality of Kolin is quite well-known.

hey- dont get me wrong- Im a secptre 1080p costco nut- I hooked my brother up with one of each. Too bad the 37s HDMI input crapped and the 42in had damaged LCD display... :/

Its a decent TV, and but if plan on using the VGA input, be prepared for tearing when watching full screen video. I returned mine, but I paid $100 more and the silver bothered me. Plus, backlight wasnt even. But $599 is a good deal for this set.

where can you get a 42" sceptre 1080p for 1200? newegg sells it for 1299+100 shipping. plus the reviews of that don't seem too positive

Sure, but none of the above make this particular set anything but a hot deal at $600. We're still talking a TV at twice the price.

quit while you are behind. His point was $600 more is NOT "a little more cash" its TWICE the price. "A little more cash" usually equals 10-15% more not 100%.

If they are both 37" how is the sceptre 5in bigger? Or is the sceptre 42"?

Thats what I was getting at. If he is talking about a 37" sceptre for $1200 then that is a lot more money to pay for 1080p for the same size set. If he is talking about a 42" then I want to know where to get it for $1200, cuz I might be interested. But, either way, like everyone else said, that doesn't mean this deal for $600 isn't hot, cuz it is. Its the cheapest 37" lcd I have ever seen.

You can't even tell a difference from 1080i to 1080p at 37". It's a waste of money. And besides, why do people go to a HOT DEALS forums and say "nah man, just spend twice that amount- $700 more for the same size set. Come on now.
