Oleophobic coating success story

So I was grilling the other day. I needed to flip the quarter inch pork cuts, but didn't want to use the fork that I was using on the eggplant and squash. I was busy looking at my phone for eggplant preparation directions, and said to heck with it, and just grabbed the pork and flipped it with my fingers. I then continued battering the eggplant with olive oil pepper and parmesan. By the end of this, my hands were terribly oily. Mostly from the olive oil.

The LG g2 is probably the first phone that I've had that as an oleophobic coating on the screen. I knew I was going to regret it, but I needed to use my phone so I grabbed it out of my pocket as carefully as I could, woke up the screen and checked what I needed to check. To my surprise, none of the oil that was on my fingers made it onto the screen. I certainly touched the screen several times, but none of it stuck at all.

And I was very, very impressed.

My niece has an ipod touch ver 2. Shes handicapped and live on this thing. She only haas use of her left hand and the coating is completely worn thru. It looked horrible so I got me an ipad mini 2. Hopefully the coating lasts longer.

Regarding grilling, suggest you try long tongs for turning over items on the grill. :) That is a good plug for oleophobic coatings.

then the tongs get oil on them because I was busy basting the eggplant in olive oil and pepper and parmesan, and the phone only marginally [whatever got whiped off onto the tongs] less oil (absent oleophobic coating).

Given pork slices a quarter inch thick, and an argument against tongs, I'm just going to say that OP doesn't know much about grilling.

You want an oleophobic "success" story? Use your phone like a phone in the late afternoon, then wipe off your face grease. It's my daily victory.

IIRC iPod Touches dont have oleophobic coating? I had an iPod Touch 4G and I remember comparing with my gf then against an iPhone. It's night and day difference.

Not any more.
only one worth using is a tempered glass to save the screen from shattering. Barring that, a good case that will shield the corners and edges from impact. Aside from that you don't need a protector, gorilla glass is so hard I've like, never had a scratch almost ever. Except on my OGDroid, as soon as I removed protector and put it in pocket, scratched the screen. none since then tho

That is pretty much my take on it as well. I stopped using a screen protector with my last phone and simply went without for a couple of years. The glass still looks perfect. I always use a minimal case with a raised edge to protect against small drops, but no longer feel the need to cover the glass.

Did you then place the same finger(s) on another surface and see oil transferred? Because if you didn't your story remains in the anecdotal realm.

Forget the coating! What's the problem with using the same for on your eggplant?
