OLED PS Vita or import LCD?

Been wanting a Vita for a while now and was waiting for info on new model but it looks like a US release is nowhere in sight. For those that have the OLED how long does you battery usually last?

I am seriously considering importing the new one in that sweet white/lime color.

The OLED screen is going to be superior to the LCD no matter how you slice it. Especially black levels. Get the OLED one while they're still available new.

Isn't the battery life of the OLED version half the LCD?

It's a bit of difference sure but the visuals are worth it. I've never played my Vita (I have the launch OLED one) long enough to drain the battery to zero and I've played a couple hours at a time.

4 hours (OLED) vs 5 (LCD), but I found the battery to be adequate. Reviews have stated that ergonomics are better, but they prefer the OLED as the colors are more accurate. If the LCD was 199.99 though, I'd just opt for the OLED. I had the original PSP, then got the PSP-3000 but the difference was very dramatic. The 3000 ended up feeling cheap whereas the original PSP felt like a premium device.

For me it came down to visuals vs ergonomics. I've played around with a friends Vita extensively to see whether the ensuing strain was truly noticeable. For me it wasn't and knowing that the LCD screen of the new version couldn't fully replicate the lush visuals of the original OLED I happily bought a Vita at the top of the month.

Yes, reviews everywhere state that the OLED is superior but said that the improvements on the device overall make the new one much better and that's what you should pick up.

Better how? Besides the battery the thing looks more cheaply made. One thing I like about the Vita is it feels and looks like a quality piece of hardware. Compare it to the 3DS and the 3DS feels and looks like a toy.

Believe the edges are contoured and slimmer.

I'm gonna have to side with techno vice above. The comfort is good enough for average gaming sessions that giving up the OLED screen wouldn't be my choice. I've played for about 3 hours at a time and never once felt like it was too heavy, too thick, or uncomfortable in any way. That's just me.

I probably will get a Vita soon to use for remote play and there is no way I wouldn't get the OLED one. If Sony announced they are discontinuing the OLED one in the US right now, I'd go right out and buy one. The only plus (to me) the new LCD one has is better battery life, but considering the use I am looking to use this for, I don't care about that so much.

Thanks for the info everyone. From the reviews I had gathered that the new LCD model battery is tons better than the OLED. The main reason I want the Vita is because FFX and FFX-2 were announced. Don't care much for X but I just loved X-2.

PS Vita review (2013)

But should they wait for the newer model to leave Japan and come around the world? That's a tougher call. At $199, the original Vita isn't any more expensive than the 2000-series will likely be, and it has the benefit of being available on US store shelves today. If you're the kind of person still doggedly hanging onto your plasma TV as manufacturers switch to LCD panels, you'll probably find it equally hard to let go of the launch model's OLED screen. That's understandable, but I think the physical improvements to the 2000-series will be enough for most to consider it the better buy. Whichever model you go for, though, the PS Vita is a surprisingly solid offering at this point in time
