Pretty cool (except for the music). Your title is way better than the title on Youtube.

So weird, the traffic was trolleys & horse-drawn carriages...

What blows my mind is the stuff people built before calculators, CAD, etc. Like, the Statue of Liberty started construction around the same time that the lightbulb was invented. No chainsaws or CNC machines or power tools or anything like that...pencils, paper, and manpower. And that statue is still standing today, 100+ years later, and you can go & visit it.

Sigh. Oldest footage of New York. Tough crowd.
Was there supposed to be a joke in there? What does a caveman flipping the bird have to do with oldest footage of New York? Is there some other definition of "footage" I don't know that applies to cave paintings or prehistoric people in New York?

Edit: is the joke supposed to be a photograph [drawing] of a caveman giving a rude gesture to imply that he's from New York? It still doesn't work unless it's a photograph or video.

Cool footage.

Vote++ WTF is with the music? o_O

The first tune was nice, seemed appropriate. Second was "What? ehhh ok, I guess?" . Third was, "wtf? Srsly!"

Pretty cool. So neat to see old footage like that. Consider that the Titanic had not even set sail when that was filmed. Let that sink in.

Ya. One thing that crossed my mind is that not 1 of those people would still be alive. Not only that though, they would have perceived their world much the same way we do. Specifically being Modern and technologically advanced.

Kinda makes me wonder just how far things will be a century from now, assuming no major catastrophe turns everything to shit. One day we will just be quaint.

Your perception is clouding your judgment. it's not your fault though. That's life as a human. I love Amazing Grace. That wasn't the full version though. But beautiful nonetheless.

How very perceptive of you.

You can see you are a demonstration of the duality of life right there. To hold misperceptions and perceptive thoughts as well. We get only glimpses of reality, then we delete, distort and generalize that information to keep from being overloaded with information beyond what our minds can handle. As for musical tastes, that's a topic in and of itself. I'm not sure you'd accept a shortened version of a complex concept. Your mind would question it, and we would stray too far off topic answering it.

Did anyone else notice the title of the OP:

"Oldest Know Footage of New York"

is an acronym for OK FoNY?

Was that on purpose or is his subconscious trying to tell us (including him) something? It's also not like him to typo Known as know but that's likely not significant. Then again the acronym is likely insignificant as well and just a coincidence.

I saw a similar video of "oldest known colour footage of London" a few years back with some pretty cool music. Bought the song on iTunes.

Jonquil - Whistle Low EP - Parasol

At the time I saw that video, iTunes was allowing people stream the whole Random Access Memories album before it was released. One of the times I re-watched that video, "Lose Yourself To Dance" was playing and it seemed oddly fitting.

Cool video but I dont understand why videos like these always feature sad/plaintive music.

Had to turn it off right away.

On behalf of the 8+ million of us living in upstate NY, enough of us that if NYC & Long Island were split off as a separate state it would still leave us as the 12th or 13th most populous state in the nation, NY != NYC. We are all tired of explaining to strangers we meet that we don't have a subway. Out of state people I meet are bewildered when I explain that the closest subway is 6 hours away. People appear to be geographically challenged.

It's a 9 hour drive to go from one end of NY to the other.
