OLDEST HARDWARE YOU HAVE RUN XP ON?

foxkm

Senior member
I installed XP on a 5 year old sony laptop
Here are the SPECS:

150mhz Pentium MMX CPU
80 MB Ram
2GB Toshiba Hard drive
Neo Magic 2 MB Video Card
Onboard Sound (ESS)
IR Device

Boot time: ~35 seconds

Everything works and is detected in XP . Its not the fastest thing in the world, but the biggest problem is the load time, apps run fine, they just take forever to load. I might get faster/bigger hard drive to see how this effects performance.

What is the oldest/slowest hardware you have got XP running on?

No contest with me, you win. Anyway, here's the specs:
  • 500MHz Celeron
  • 160MB RAM
  • 4.3GB hard disk
  • SiS integrated video
  • other components not listed were at least as crappy as these

You've got me beat. I ran XP on an IBM Aptiva for a few weeks.

K6-350
192 megs pc100
15gig 7200rpm
onboard video and sound.

No problems really once I turned off all the extras.

PII300
soyo 6ba+III
196mb ram
4.3 WD
16mb TNT

Use this as a test bed, same here with killin the "extras", runs "OK" LOL!!!

Celeron366@550
512mb Kinston pc133 ram
3dfx v00d00 5 5500 agp

Finally i have the best system around. muahahahahahahaha

^^^^in for a harsh suprise in a few posts^^^^^^^

So it runs ok for ya Woodie? I an going to be doing an XP Pro install on an K6-2 500 sometime this week or the next on a machine at work. Did you load the chipset drivers for your mainboard, or did you use what XP installed?

Yes, it was a very good OS all things considered. I don't think I installed any MOBO drivers as XP had them all. I just played around with it for a few weeks to learn my way around until I got the rest of my parts for my main rig and moved XP to it. The Aptiva is back to 98SE.

IBM Aptiva K6-233
128MB Ram
3Gig HD

Takes forever to boot up, but once it loads, it runs fine.
I have it running a data collection program with 16 remote barcode scanners.
I also have PCAnywhere 10.5 on it for remote admin.
Performace would prob be better if I stick another 128MB ram in it.

I have blown out XP in order to rekindel an old love.... for BeOS

I installed BeOS MAX (free download HERE)

and it runs very smooth. BeOS should have had more effort put in it as it would have easily become a defacto standard
in the PC industry.

This runs much faster on my Sony Laptop (Pentium MMX 150mhz) than XP did..

Anyone BeOS fans here?

Man....more power to you.

I ran it on a K62-300 w/ 128 Megs ram & a 20 Gig HD (multiple OSes --test box this one was).....

And it was barely bearable.

Half that processor + a lappy----screw dat.

Pentium 133. Micron machines. out of 4 it installed successfully on 3. never figured out why it wouldn't install on #4.

Damn n0cmonkey, wasn't that really slow? With those system specs I would have thought you would have real trouble!!!!😀

P2 350mhz
Gigabyte GA 686BX
Voodoo2 12mb
Matrox G200 8mb
56Gay modem
128mb SDRam

Did I EVER say that installing XP on that machine was a SMART IDEA?

I did mention that it ran O.K., it wasn't like running netscape 7 on a 486.

An old Tiny PC with PII 300mhz, 192MB PC100, 4GB Hard Drive, 4mb ATI Graphics....Detected and installed all hardware itself, which was sweet....since we had lost them anyway!

Tom's Hardware supposedly ran all of their recent massive CPU benchmark testing on XP, even the PC's running Pentium 100mhz....
