Oldest Game Still Playing

Caught a wave of nostaglia this weekend and fired up Wing Commander on an old computer that I kept that still runs DOS/Win 95. That game is still very playable and enjoyable despite the graphics. It was revolutionary for its time.

I also enjoy playing Star Wars Rebellion (> than 10 yrs old) which was a massive flop but still has its moments for me.

Found out Xcom was only 5 bucks on Steam. So I've been kickin some Sectoid ass recently.

1994 graphics or not that game simply rocks in game play and replayability.

Baulders Gate 2.

Played it just a few months ago. If someone released BG 3 with the same graphics and quality story line I am sure people would buy it.

Most people who start MAME cabinet projects fail. This is a fact. Are you going to allow yourself to be amongst the thousands of failures out there? Only time will tell.

What the flub? It lost my post!

I just reloaded the install disks for WIN98 for an old HP P2 450 I had lying around.

You need to update to WIN98 or WIN98 SE. You need IE5 plus to get any security updates off MS update site.

OLD AND CRUSTY APPS!

I have to try that again sometime. Last time I tried on XP using DOSBox didn't work well, but maybe my new rig will handle it better. Finally fulfilling the dream of Tie Fighter on a projection screen that I've had since ~1994 😉

Blurry picture, but here's my last attempt that was on my old screen

Not really playable though 🙁

Hehehe! I still got the game around here someplace, too! I was thinking about loading up some Quake, DOOM or Duke Nukem on mine!

These companies could re-release these games for windows xp/vista and charge $5 and make a fortune. Dosbox works for most things but is a hassle, and something most people won't bother with.

Is there a guide to get that working?

I also need something that would allow me to reassign the buttons on my microsoft sidewinder joystick that microsoft was so kind to only basically support in XP.

I still got one of those indestructible arcade quality joysticks lying around called X-Fighter made by Thrustmaster, too! Worked great on Tie Fighter!
