Older XP thoughts

I have a bunch of spare parts, and I built an XP 2000+ for a friend two ys ago for free. I just upgraded the RAM on that machine from the 384MB she provided origionally, to 768MB.

I'm at a loss here. What else can I do for free?

She had better be a pretty hot friend. Use the following scale:
She's a 1-5: tell her "sorry, bitch, I'm done doing this crap for free. pay me some $$$ and I'll get you a good system."
She's a 6-7 and single: "hey, um, I can get you a 2600+ but it'll take a LOT of work. I need some motivation." Up the multi from 12.5 to 16.
She's an 8-9 and she needs a little push to get in bed with you: "hey, baby, why don't you take my Q6600 and I'll tweak the xp 2000+".
She's a brazilian supermodel: "hey, baby, here's the keys to my car".

seriously, try messing with the multi or fsb. I just got my mom's barton 2500+ up from 11x166 to 11x200 with a little fsb tweaking. 3200+ never looked so good. I had to bump vcore a very small amount from 1.65 to 1.70, but it seems to be working just fine after 1 hr now. I'm about to ship it back to her. I gave her the 6-7 treatment with a slight modification: she's making spaghetti next sunday.

LOL I'm married, shes my sister 'nlaw.

But yeah, it wasn't a great chip when I acuired it, and it won't OC at all anymore, even with more Vcore (I put it through the paces with 100% CPU load for three years).

But OK. The only next thing I have is a few 3.2c and 3200+ chips , and that is a whole new rebuild.

I'm trying to avoid that!
