Older Xbox Assistance

I purchased my son a brand new Xbox many many years ago, and forgot to give it to him (don't worry, the wife bought him one). It has been sitting up in the closet tucked away for many years. The box has never been opened and still has the security tape on the ends. My question is: Does this have any value?

On the barcode of the box it has:
F23-00170
TEAM FDOU
MADE IN CHINA
LOT NO: 0408
Bar Code Number: 8 85529 68848 3

Please don't reply offering me $50. I don't play with an Xbox, but if it is worth pretty much nothing, I'll quickly learn how to play it. Can anyone tell what I have and how old it is? I would prefer not to break the seal and open the box.

Yeah you're looking at $30-60 depending on where you are, you could potentially find a collector trying to buy one sealed in the original packaging and make some decent money potentially, but you will have to look for someone interested in that, and they are few and far between so best of luck there.

I had a feeling that it was not worth much. Why would a collector want this old piece of junk? Obviously not to play?

If it's sealed and the packing is all in good condition a collector might pay several hundred dollars, it's just finding someone who wants to pay that much.

Is this the original black Xbox? If so they were huge in the modding culture. You were able to add emulators and a ton of other stuff like that easily.

Leave it right where it is for another 10 years and check back in. Honestly, that's what I would do, no sense in opening it now, you won't play it.

This. You won't want to play it once you start it up. Games look horrible. I was only active for like 2 years and dropped like a rock and there were no exclusives worth a darn. Since it was American, it didn't gather any steam elsewhere either which means there isn't those "rare" games that can cause a system to rise in value later.

It certainly isn't worth a lot now. They are still available to those that want them still hiding in a lot of closets. Now 20 years after it left the market it might go up in value. Less of them available. Less new in box. It can certainly become a collectible darling.

So trying to sell now will get you nothing. Using it will get you nothing and ruin its future value. So tuck it away till its actually worth something.

Throw it on eBay in a few years. There are people who might pay a few hundred for it, at least there are people out there who seem to think so.
