Older, Win 98 computers require "hard disk space" to print.

Hi,

I am trying to help a local church with two of their old computers.

The first one:

Pentium I 60 mhz w/ 128mb ram, 540mb hard drive space. Printer is Canon I-30, a simple inkjet printer.

When we try to print pictures, it is VERY VERY slow, but most of the time it says, "not enough hard drive space to print. try clearing hard drive and then printing" or something like that.

SAME Problem with the other computer,
Pentium I 133mz, 64mb ram, 3 gig hard drive.

I have tried clearing space, but it still prints VERY VERY slow or even doesn't print at all.

Buying new computers is not within budget. Is there any cheap or /free fix or configuration I can use?

Anyone have any old computers (maybe a second or third computer) that they print pictures from? What is the best setting? Does EMF or RAW settings in the printer profile make a difference?

Any suggestions?

I've got an old Celeron box, win98se and a 540MB HD. It prints OK.

I don't really know what EMF or RAW settings mean. If you'll tell me where to look, I'll check it out for you.

What is the OS of the computers
What is the file format of the pic they're printing (bmp, tiff, jpg,...)
What program are you printing the pic from

Hi, both computers are running Win98SE.

They are printing from educational software titles. I am not sure in what format they would be in as they are printing directly from the software programs... maybe they are encoded as bitmaps? They are printing from
World Book Encyclopedia and Madeline, some children's software.

try turning off print spooling and see if that helps. If you are only printing 1 document at a time you probably won't notice a difference. Has worked for me when I had a similiar problem.

Yes, there is an option in the printing settings to "Print Directly to Printer" - that should skip the spooling but your computer will be tied up longer during printing since the print job can't be dumped to disk to get on with something else.
