Why don't these programs run?

Is this a Win XP SP2 issue?

Do you have a dual core or hyperthreaded CPU? Maybe those programs only work with single CPU setups.

That could be true too. You can try running them in compatibility mode by right click on their shortcuts and looking in the Compatibility tab.

XLR8R seemed to stop working with the advent of HT chipsets.
Prior to this, XP ran them all fine. I don't recall the last time 3DMark99 was run though - it's been a while.

Tried compat mode with no change.

Win98 (cough) won't install on the machines because of the memory although I'm told it will work as long as msconfig is used to set upper memory to 998MB and VCACHE max is < 511MB etc.

If you have a dual core or hyperthreaded system, you can use the task manager to set a process to use only one core/cpu.

Tried the "affinity thing" and even disabled HT in BIOS with no change. 2nd CPU was removed from dual CPU system after a dummy was found and same results.

AFAIK 3dmark99 needs DX3 or DX6 installed to work (can't remember which one). It doesn't work with newer DX
