Older technology versus newer

I've bought an 805 dualie cpu that I plan to OC and just found out that P5P800 SE mobo supports the Pentium D series of cpus. If I got this mobo, I wouldnt have to spend any extra cash on the new DDR2 ram but would using the older chipset and DDR ram inhibit the systems performance significantly? I plan to OC to about 3.4-3.6Ghz and want to get the most bang for the buck. The older chipset is the 865PE and the newer one is the 945P. This would be for a video encoding rig so that is the main focus about performance. Thanks
