Older OC'd CPU still running strong: GPU upgrade worth it?

Hi,

I've got an i7-2600k OC'd to 4.4Ghz, 16GB ram, and a GTX 465. It's powered by a corsair AX850.

It's been great for SC2, which is basically the only game I play, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a 1060 or 1070 to play more modern games like Doom and Overwatch. Is my CPU going to be a huge bottleneck? I realize it's getting older, but it has a pretty solid OC though.

While the PSU is driving 5 disks and also a GeForce 210 for my third monitor, I feel I have enoguh power headroom in this system to simply buy a 1070 without worrying about the PSU. Can anyone comment on that?

I intend to also get a 4k monitor eventually, and to play games on my 4k TV as well. Can I get good performance on Doom and Overwatch (full settings on 4k without falling under 30 fps ever) without shelling out for a new motherboard/cpu?

your CPU is good, I wouldn't worry about it for most games...

also 4K with max settings is really hard, even for the 1080

and for Doom and Overwatch you really don't want anything less than 60FPS, those games are 60FPS even on the Xbox One.

gtx 465 probably uses more power than the 1070, so, that's not a problem I think.

i7 SB OC is no slouch. It'll handle all the newer games great.

PSU is solid too, so upgrade away man and enjoy the 4K gaming experience!

You'll be fine, I run an OC'd 2500k and bought the RX480. Waiting to get it but should not be a problem with new gen cards.

Your CPU might not be as fast as the newest ones, but its still fast enough to justify a GPU upgrade for sure.

Thanks for all the help guys. It sounds like this CPU is 5 years old and thanks to the end of Moore's Law, it's still great!
