I've got a couple of old rigs gathering dust in my garage. 2 PII 400MHz and a Athlon K-6 700MHz. If i dedicated these to S@H, would they actually bring in a fair amount of WU's/day? Any estimates?

If you're willing to pay the increase in electricity, you will garner some results. Exact numbers, I do not know, but I've got some 333s and 450s running.

Well, they'd give you "some" results after a while but I guess it's just a waste of energy in comparison to what they really produce. I think a PIII600 or so is stilla fine system to crunch with, but PII ... I don't know.

My P3 450 gets about 2/day. It may have to get shut down, along with my P 166 and K6-2 350 (total of about 3 WU per day) since my wife just got the electric bill!

These guys are right. You'll have to come up with your own threshhold numbers, but when I was running S@H, I set a minimum of 4 WUs per day per processor -- if a rig couldn't meet that production quota, it was time to get rid of it.

Nowadays, with hardware SO MUCH cheaper than before, I'd probably put the minimum at 7/day/proc. You'll have to decide what the electricity is worth to you.

My dual PII 400 rig does 13 hour WUs running the linux cli. My dual PII450 box does 11 to 12 hour WUs running Wn2K and the windows cli.

The linux box doesn't use much electricity, as it is a bare minimum setup, 150W p/s, no HD, no CD-ROM, just a floppy no case, just sitting on the workbench. Only 1 of the CPUs has a cooling fan.

The Win2K box probably uses a lot of electricity, as it is an older IBM5000 box, heavy duty p/s, cooling fans, case fans, SCSI HDs, etc.

Wintertime it is okay because it will suppliment the heating cost. In the summer it's a whole different story.

Xeons at what speed? I have a dual 400? Xeon combo here that I guess I could throw together and test for S@H for numbers, although the cache size might also be a factor. P2 & P3 Xeons could have L2 cache sizes of 512k, 1 Meg, and 2 Meg. Mine are 2 Meg each. I also have a quad p3-Xeon 500 box(1 meg cache per), though I'd prefer not to mess with it since it's already doing FaD for the TeAm. ;)

You could put FaD to sleep for a short while and run a S@H test. ;-)

I also have Quad PIIIX500 system, but 2 have 1MB and 2 have 2MB. Works great and the extra cache DOES make a marginal difference. Same on my 8-way PIIIX550, again half and half.
