Older gen iMac decent for Diablo 3 and SC2?

I currently own a Macbook and a PC which I use for dirty work like being a Video compiler, Virtual Machines, streaming to my 360 etc...

I would like to get an iMac in the future for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. I might sell my Macbook but I like having a portable laptop when I go repair people's computer at their house.

Do you think an older gen iMac will be able to play Diablo 3? I'm talking about the ones with the ATI HD 2600 video cards. I know it's a bit early to tell but Blizzard has been really good at compatibility. I guess I should probably wait.

From looking at demo vids, I don't think Diablo 3 is going to require much power. Blizzard is really good about offering playable performance on older generations of hardware. The intel4500 is probably good enough to play D3. Dunno about SC2 though.

they should be fine. however, the new macbooks have the 9400m inside them, as well as the current low end imac.

whats your budget like? 🙂 i would still definitely pick up the older imacs with the 2600 in them - they are a bit faster than the 9400m, but they dont have the hardware acceleration for video (i think). damn apple and their weird choices for gpus...

I would like to keep my budget under a thousand. Still trying to figure stuff out. I could get probably get rid of my 22 inch monitor.

My Macbook has the 950 Gooberlx2 :-x.

I'm willing to bet D3 will still be playable.

My Macbook also has the GMA950... and it can barely play games that are newer than 6 years old. Heck, it barely plays Warcraft III at 1024x768...

But the OP's asking about an iMac with an HD2600 so... that shouldn't be an issue, or rather, I sure hope it isn't, considering that it's still faster than anything integrated today, even for a two generation old discrete chip.

I dunno, I can play Warcraft III on medium just fine on my Macbook. It leads me to believe I will be able to play D3 with the ATI 2600 HD. I hope I can. I want to sell my Macbook and external monitor and pick up the iMac for simplicity and then later maybe get a Macbook unibody. I think Blizzard will take into consideration the Mac lineup. They seem to be the only company that cares about Mac gaming.
