Hi, folks. This old timer, (46), needs some of you who are more comfortable with this high tech stuff to assist me. One of the advantages of being older is you gain the experience and balls to cut and run, and to have the confidence to do your own thing if conditions warrant. The bottom line is this: I have two high tech ventures I'm looking at. But my high tech knowhow is woefully inadequate. I don't know enough about developing a web site, servers, search engine placement, etc. I need those who do.
I'm looking at establishing a business in Costa Rica, and another in Europe, preferably Italy.
So, where does a guy turn to find some knowledgable risk takers who are unorthodox and unconventional and looking for a ground floor opportunity? It's very early in the planning stages, but for those seriously interested we can begin some private converstaions. I'm just throwing out some feelers here. Thanks, all.

I think at this stage in the IT game, all the "unorthodox" VCs are all dead and buried... or no longer VCs

actually, now would be the perfect time to find someone like that. With e-commerce collapsing, there is a good number of dot-bomberzs who are out of work and who take risks.

Older Dude Needs Some Younger Input

I'm sorry, but you'll most likely have to pay for that. Unless you're rich.

I thought this was another one of those gay pride threads.

Generally speaking, having money to invest and no tech knowledge will make other people wealthy. Then the money runs out, they find another investor to fleece, and you look like a fool. Good luck.

I think stark is right - unless you know something we don't starting up a tech company now is HARD. If you don't know much about tech its damn near impossible. Even companies filled with semi-geniuses experienced in the industry are folding left right and center.

PM has since been turned on. Excuse my oversight. Jeffwo, suspicious of what?? I'm asking if anyone can share some know how, not their wallet.
Please, if you're going to reply, be serious.

Why did you choose to establish a business in those specific countries?

Just curious.

yeah, we need specifics. What kind of Ecommerce. Etailer? why those locations, etc. also who's going to manage it? developer? implement? all these are critical success factors in a business. Be sure you have a good buz. plan that covers all contingencies.

Easy, guys. I'm the suspicious type, also, so I can appreciate your questions. Why Costa Rica?
Because the business climate there is very favorable for legalized online gambling, which current US law does not allow. In addition, it offers a stable, democratic government along with a well educated and bilingual workforce. The keyword here being legal. I am NOT looking for some fly by night, boiler room type operation but, rather, a successful and legitimate website/business.
As for Italy, well, first, I'm Italian. Second, the need for this second business is throughout Europe due to their lesser access to internet connections and Italy provides a good location for this. And let's not forget the food and women.

Russ, too old for what, man? Take a vitamin, do some pushups, get yourself one of those sweet Costa Rican ladies, and you'll feel vibrant.

Carbo,

I was simply echoing your defined parameters. By your standards, I am an "older dude", and you were seeking "younger input".

Aah ha, you're right! I was discriminating against the over thirty crowd.
My apologies to all I've slighted. With that in mind, let me say ALL are welcome to offer their advice, opinions, and assistance.

Gambling? well, there are tons of that around. I wonder if you have enough VC to support the ad campaign. If you don't get your name out, u'll never last longer than 6mo.

Gundam, that's exactly the point. There are tons of them around. And why do you think that is? Because they're NOT making any money? If competition frightens you you're better off punching a clock.
