95% of African Americans vote Democratic. I"m not saying there isn't some sort of racial bias, but truth is, it had more to do with his party affiliation than his skin color.
From what I could find, Clinton had 84% of the AA vote- Gore had 90%. Where are you getting '95% vote Democratic', aside from yesterday?
I apologize, I didn't research the specific numbers before I posted.
Typically AA vote goes democratic. Also, I'm sure there are many on the fence voters who were simply sick of Bush/republicans and wanted to go the other way. I know a lot of people who normally vote republican who voted for Obama for this reason.
My point was that party played a bigger role in the number than race.
