Older 720p DLP, divergence issues...

So, my roomie brought in this older 720 dlp. There's an issue with blurriness on one side/corner, where it looks like individual colors have separated. I was just wondering if that's at all caused by having a [very large] speaker next to the TV? Can speaker magnets do that sort of thing?

I'm just wondering if I'm damaging the TV by having my speakers so close to it.

On a DLP it shouldn't make any difference.

The speakers next to TV issue is meant for people with CRTs.

I suppose something could get out of alignment in the TV due to vibrations from the speakers, but the warning about speakers is typically due to the magnetic fields generated around a speaker interfering with the CRT. DLPs work differently, so magnetic fields produced by speakers shouldn't cause that issue.
 
Yeah, YoYo's got it...the speakers won't affect the DLP. I'm guessing either the set has some dust on it or the DMD has some damaged mirrors.

But just to ask the typical troubleshoot question: have you tried moving the speaker away for a long period of time? If so, does the problem persist?

If the DMD was damaged, I'd assume that it would be more than a convergence issue, since the gray-scale image wouldn't be produced correctly.

It sounds like something is causing localized separation of the light paths the different colors of light are taking on their way to the screen surface.

I don't really know enough about this, but I would suspect a lens alignment issue or something of that nature rather than the DMD chip itself being the problem.

(At any rate, I don't suspect the speakers are the issue)
