If they are both the Xbox 360s models, there should be no difference besides HDD size. The only difference I believe is the 4GB model has flash memory and no HDD and the others don't; that might not be entirely true though, so don't quote me on that.
An additional bit of information: the new xbox 360e consoles (which were launched under the radar) are cost reduced versions that do not have an optical port and one less USB port. It also has a different design aesthetic (looks like the xbox one).
I didn't think these were coming out until the Xbox One launch. MS announced a revised Xbox 360 during either the Xbox One launch or E3 (I don't remember which). I wouldn't say it was exactly under the radar for those whose radar includes console releases.
What? During the conference Microsoft been mentioned the revised Xbox 360 would be released that month. Its been avaible for like 2 1/2 months
I thought they said it was coming out later. But, I have a slim, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to it. I haven't seen it on Amazon (but I haven't looked either). A quick Amazon search showed what looks like the Xbox 360 Slim being the available standard.

The 360e has been out since the middle of June.

I don't remember the last time I even went to a GameStop. >_>
Well I go there regularly as I'm also a console gamer
I am too, I just don't go to GameStop. Amazon Prime fufills everything I need, and after the Xbox One lets me purchase and download from them directly, I won't be buying any more disc based games either.
I guess I ended up skipping the new Xbox 360 on Amazon because it looks like a 3rd party marketplace listing compared to the other 360 models.
They couldn't possibly be moving many, as the Spring and Holiday bundles come with 2 games and an "old" console. Not sure why they didn't update the bundle.
How is it an "old" console especially in the Holiday/Spring bundles? They appear the same as the unbundled 360S being sold full retail today.
He's saying the "old" console is the 360S, as opposed the the 360E, which just came out in June.
AFAIK the E is less.
Yeah you could think of it as 'E' for economy. Just a little bit more stripped down to cost less to make.
Any 360S/E model should be functionally identical as long as you have enough drive space and ports thoughI don't know anyone that still uses optical for audio now that HDMI is prevalent.

I still use optical for audio
My Turtle Beach wireless 7.1 Xbox headset hooks into the optical port.
Most TVs with HDMI have an optical audio output as well, I know both of mine do, Pioneer Elite Plasma and Samsung 3D Plasma. You can use the TV (or your AV receiver) as a converter from HDMI audio to optical audio![]()
