going to sell my 4-year-old dell 933 xps to a friend who just needs a cheap computer, but the GeForce2 GTS Pro 4x AGP 64Mb card died a month ago. whats the cheapest card i can put in a 4x agp slot so i can sell this comp? he's only going to be using it for basic tasks, but the mobo has no on-board video, so i'm stuck getting a new card.

thanks, but i'm trying to stay around 30$ for this.

how do i know whether i need to get a 1/2/4x agp card or a 4/8x agp card? i assume i would need the earlier version, as my old comp is almost 4 years old. how about this one:

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 7000(RADEON VE) Video Card, 32MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, 4X AGP -OEM

P3 mobo should work with AGP 1/2/4 cards. You might find a $20-25 gf2, gf3ti, or gf4mx card in FS/FT forum or Hot Deals.

Ebay.

Old cards die when the fan goes bad. People forget to check and poof goes the card.

Had a GF2 GTS go bad on me, but it was perfect for my computer. Went on Ebay, searched, found the same card, bid $5 over what was there, won the auction, got the card, installed, back in business. Paid $25 with shipping. Search with words like GeForce2 or GeForce3.

Then I went to Compusa and got a chipset fan for $10. Took off the existing fan and put the new chipset fan on there.

Also bought replacement fans for my LT Ti4400 from Leadtek themselves for $10 each. One of my fans is making noise. Don't want to loose that card.

if not gaming, both are fine. if buying used in FS/FT or ebay you might look for a card with just a heatsink instead of a fan (many gf2mx & gf4mx, some ati) since then you don't need to worry about the fan dying.

No way in hell. The GF2 is a huge leap from the 7000, which I'd compare to a TNT2/TNT2ultra. The 7000 is still a very good desktop card though. I still have one in the closet that I haven't gotten around to using yet.
