Old video card Heatsink Fan. Can i attack it to a AA battery?

Hey guys, I took my HSF off my 9800pro and it looks too cool to throw away. Logistically serving no purpose, it can still work if attached to a PSU.

I was just curious as to if it can be attached to a AA battery but i have my doubts.
a power supply gives 12V or 5V depending on the speed of the fan but a AA gives 1.5.
Maybe a 9V battery?

thanks

I suppose this fan must be rated to work with 12V, as most fans in computers are. Yes, you could rig up the wires to a set of batteries ; with one 1.5v battery, it won't start up, but if you put a few in series you might get it running. It will spin faster with more batteries, but 4x 1.5v batteries should be enough to at least get it spinning.

Yup, if you are really seriuos about this, you can even buy battery holders at Radio Shack that you can install 4-8 AA or AAA batteries in which you could then velcro to the back of the card of whatever other crazy Idea you have for this project

As with all electric motors, the more voltage and current you can supply, the faster it'll go. (to a certain point, obviously) The fan would work fine off a AA battery, albeit at a much reduced speed.

Oh, and I don't really think this is "highly technical." General Hardware would probably have been better. Maybe it's just me tho.
