EDIT: The new build has been named already: BumbleBee.

Piecing together some hardware, and decided to name this one, as some of you do.

It's going to be quite a powerhouse, so let's skip names such as Daisy and Buttercup. ;)

I initially was thinking of astronomical names: planets, galaxies, nebulae, and it was going to originally be naked, without a case.

But I tore apart the donor case from my deceased i7-920, an Antec 900, and have painted the metal bits yellow, leaving the plastic bits black. Doesn't look too good in pictures I'm afraid, but I got stuck on calling it Bumblebee, because I lack imagination. :)

Hmm, Wolverine's black and yellow isn't he? The name needs to represent POWER, so...Mjölnir? Stormbreaker? Thunderstrike?

Okay, now it's your turn. Help me out here, and don't get stuck on it being black and yellow.

And about the Antec 900....64 screws removed to get all the Optical drives, hard drives, fans, and those mesh panels up front removed. SIXTY. FOUR. o_O

EDIT: Ooops, silly me, I forgot 36 of them. ONE FREAKING HUNDRED screws to go from totally filled up, to totally disassembled.

What's wrong with Bumblebee?

Well, OK, Transformers isn't my favorite movie.

In any case, the front of the case reminded me of a TOS-style Yellow Alert.

Which also led me to realize that a couple of interesting Star Trek characters wore yellow and black: Kirk and Data.

Combining the construction, the Transformers, and the piecing together themes, you could call it Devastator. :)

Wow, thanks all! (except for Fred) (Just kidding Rudy Toody!!!)

Lots of links to follow and googling. :)

So far geecee is leading this race. :) But I've not decided yet.

Noctua heatsink came in today, and I'm scared of it. 2.73 pounds installed! (1.24kg) o_O

This is going to be an exceptionally clean build, internally. There will be no optical drive, and I picked up an entry level M.2 SSD, so no SATA cables. Just a few fans, the PSU, GPUs, and this:

That monster will suck a lot of WUs out of the project servers!

Call it the WU Sucking System or WUSS!

LOL!!! You ain't right! :D

Actually, I won't be able to remember anything other than Bumblebee, lol, although Devastator was a great combo of other potential names. So Bumblebee it is. Thanks for the input(s).

Finally got Win7 running on it last night, kept BSOD'ing on me, while Vista, 8.1, and 10 would all install fine. Turns out MS Win7 isn't compatible (until updating) with my Microsoft keyboard/mouse.

Ramblin' Wreck seems more popular with the Georgia Tech ladies though.

First thing that came to mind for me was BumbleBee as well. Slap a Transformer sticker on the side and it's all good.

I have some results from BumbleBee's first public outing, which is the currently ongoing PrimeGrid race.

Mjölnir: 3049.7 pts per hour (11 threads @4GHz, 94%CPU +GPU project)
BumbleBee: 4670.2 pts per hour (23 threads @2.8GHz, 99%CPU +GPU project)

Some weirdness there in the CPU utilization, as 4-5 threads should be idle on BumbleBee. Hard to argue with 53% more output though.

Computers usually ask for a name so they can be identified on a network. Might as well pick a good one.

Looks a lot like Little Blue here, but he's not even very blueish anymore and is a really old pic.

The wife uses the old 900, Big Blue is the 1200.

Pardon the mess, was an off day.

Yellow Jacket did immediately leap to my mind also.

Has my vote anyways.

Slap a German Wasp on the side :p

Maybe that is too much.

Nah, that thin is pretty light compared to one old copper one I still have running on one.

But I actually have guy wires on that, the thing weighs over twice as much.

Nice folding box, I used to run three elsewhere.

Seems it's named.
