hey all, I have had 3 routers that have been able to load thibor and tomato firmware on them. They give hints when they are on the way out, low speeds, dropping wireless clients... I need a new one soon.

So, looking into a new router. I can get a new linksys wrt that supports tomato. Or move onto something new. It seems the Netgear WNR3500L also supports tomato firmware.

Whats hot and not for home wireless routers today. With the wife and kids on Xbox and facebook, my bandwidth for online games is going in the tank.

perhaps i did not ask correctly.

What is a good home wireless router today. I am on my 3rd or 4th here using Linksys that happens to support Thibor and/or Tomato firmware.

So, times change, thibor is years gone, tomato is still going.

Over the years, more clients added, it's not just me as it once was online.

My wife has a laptop, my daughter does, my son is on xbox. We have PS3 and Wii.
I have a blackberry, wife does, daughter does. Just an old school guy looking into whats new. Just so many clients connected.
I am feeling lag playing on-line games that i didn't not so long ago.

I can buy another wrt54gl linksys, and put tomato on it again. Just thought I would ask whats new, what might be better.

No issues with any firmware really, DD-WRT are all beneficial really.

Just wanna know whats a good home sharing wireless router. If it so happens to also support third party firmware, great.

Wireless it depends on what you do with the Wireless and the environmental conditions.

If the need is for a good Router with long distance cover, and regular surfing bandwidth, than you can can stay on 802.11g.

This is a very good choice, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-134-_-Product

Otherwise.

The whole point of 802.11n is to have dual band flexibility.

For inexpensive dual band, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-386-_-Product

Expensive, Dual Radio.

Beyond this the selection gets to a level that the user needs to download the targeted devices' extended manuals and make sure that the specific needs (that hopefully he/she can define clearly) are available in the product of their choice.
