In the late 80's, BBC 4 ran a show about various household gadgets called "The Secret Life of Machines" with Tim Hunkin and Rex Garrod.

The show is rather quaint(quirky flavor and fairly low production values); but it p0wns almost all contemporary television. Even better, Tim Hunkin himself encourages us to download it.
